I noticed Studio Ghibli is starting the year with a great goal: to raise money for the ‘Totoro Hometown Fund.’ This fund helps protect the beautiful forest that inspired their classic film, My Neighbor Totoro. To help with this, they’ve brought back some popular Totoro Fund items to their online shop, which is fantastic news for fans who want to contribute!
The shop offers a variety of items like hoodies, postcards, and stickers, all featuring adorable designs of Ghibli’s beloved mascot. Two popular products from the Totoro Fund collection, the “Matcha” and “Bird’s Eye” foldable eco bags, are now back in stock at Donguri Sora.
Studio Ghibli Restocks Adorable Totoro Collection to Support Forest Preservation
I noticed both of these bags are made from a really tough, water-resistant polyester, which should keep everything inside protected from the elements. What’s also great is that they’re completely made from recycled materials – it really fits with Studio Ghibli’s long-standing commitment to protecting the environment. Each bag has one big main compartment, and inside that, there’s a smaller pocket perfect for things like your wallet or phone.
The front designs of the two bags are distinct. The “Bird’s Eye” bag features a simple outline drawing of Totoro lying on a burdock plant, playfully holding a flower stem in his mouth, with two of the little soot sprites, called Kurosuke, floating around him. The “Matcha” bag shows the blue Totoro walking through a field of grass with colorful mushrooms. The matcha version costs 1,870 yen (about $11.75) including tax, while the other version is priced at 1,540 yen (around $9.68).
Donguri Sora is back in stock with more items from the Totoro Fund! If you’re looking for a sweet gift to send overseas, Studio Ghibli has brought back its charming Totoro Fund postcard collection. This set of five cards features unique artwork created just for the Fund, showing Totoro playing amongst trees and flowers. One of the cards even includes Mei, Satsuki’s adorable sister. You can get the set now for 660 yen (about US$4.15).
The Totoro Fund’s letter set brings the cheerful and playful spirit of the classic Ghibli film to life. The set features both Totoro and the famous Catbus, and includes three different designs. The standout design shows the Catbus and Kittenbus traveling along the edges of the paper, with Mei and her friends riding along. Each set costs 660 yen and contains 12 sheets of stationery and matching envelopes decorated with adorable Totoro images.
Donguri Sora has brought back the popular Kurosuke sticky note collection from the Totoro Fund. “Kurosuke” refers to the adorable, shy soot sprites seen hiding in the attic of Mei and Satsuki in My Neighbor Totoro, and also working in Kamaji’s boiler room. This set includes different kinds of sticky notes, like regular pads and thin strips perfect for bookmarks. It costs 660 yen, the same as the other sets.
Money earned from sales of official Totoro Fund items goes directly to preserving the Sayama Hills, a large, beautiful forest area of over 8,600 acres near Tokyo and Saitama. Although the Donguri Sora store doesn’t ship internationally, you can often find their products at online retailers like Meccha Japan and Sugoi Mart.
