Kate Thornton terrified after being sent 6,000 texts and emails by a ‘relentless and obsessive’ stalker

Kate Thornton is frightened after receiving thousands of unwanted messages – over 6,000 texts and emails – from a stalker who won’t leave her alone.

James McCamley, a 53-year-old man from Glasgow, harassed radio presenter Janice Long, 52, and her coworker Mary Mandefield for five months.

The court heard that both women have requested restraining orders because they were extremely anxious and distressed by the large number of messages the radio station received, many of which were sexually suggestive.

Mr. McCamley arrived at the London studios with presents, such as wine, and spent two hours waiting in the reception area.

The event led to heightened security measures, and both women had to alter their commutes home due to concerns for their safety.

James, who pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking, was held in custody last year and will be sentenced this week, according to The Sun.

According to the report, prosecutor Edward Aydin stated in court that the two women are afraid of their stalker, describing the behavior as persistent and obsessive.

‘They are seeking restraining orders.’

Daily Mail has contacted Kate’s representative for comment.

Kate originally hosted the first seasons of The X Factor when it began on ITV in 2004. However, after two years, Simon Cowell decided to have Dermot O’Leary take over the hosting duties.

The presenter previously said being fired from the show was deeply embarrassing and upsetting, explaining she was hurt because Simon didn’t communicate honestly with her.

In 2020, Kate explained that Simon had gone back on his word and didn’t renew her contract, despite initially promising to do so.

I saw it on the ten o’clock news, and it was really embarrassing and upsetting. It stung even more to find out someone I thought was a friend hadn’t been honest with me.

After feeling Simon fired her for publicity, Kate declared in 2016 that she would cut him out of her life completely.

I’ve been following her work for years, and it’s amazing to think it all started with showbiz journalism! She wrote for publications like the Sunday Times and Marie Claire, and then really proved her skills when she started covering major news events – I remember her reporting on the tragic death of Princess Diana being particularly impactful.

Kate began her career as a television presenter, notably hosting ITV’s Loose Women from 2009 to 2011 and occasionally appearing on This Morning.

She started working at Greatest Hits Radio in 2022, hosting the Sunday show. Starting November 11, 2024, she also began presenting the weekday afternoon program.

Kate also has her own podcast, White Wine Question Time.
