Be warned, this article reveals major plot details from the season 2 finale of Landman. After a somewhat uneven few episodes, the finale of Landman season 2 provided a generally satisfying ending to Taylor Sheridan’s series. However, some aspects of how things wrapped up felt a little too convenient and could use further explanation. The episode neatly resolved all the remaining questions surrounding M-Tex, Cami Miller (Demi Moore), and the surprising events of episode 9.
Tommy is now focusing on a family business after losing his job at M-Tex, Ainsley has started college, and Cooper and Ariana are planning to get married, suggesting a positive outlook for the world of Landman. However, reaching this happy place was difficult. Cooper almost faced murder charges, Tommy was seriously injured in a car accident, and Gallino once again caused trouble for everyone involved. The events leading to the conclusion – including a surprising appearance by a coyote with symbolic meaning – deserve a closer look and some explanation.
Why Tommy Sees A Coyote In Landman Season 2‘s Finale Explained

The second season of Landman concluded with a strange scene: Tommy talking to a coyote in his backyard. He firmly told the animal, “No. You can’t have today, bud. Today is mine.” While unusual, the moment felt significant, especially considering Tommy also spoke to a coyote at the end of season 1.
At the close of Landman season one, Tommy chased off a coyote, warning it that coyotes are killed in the area. This coyote represented Tommy’s feeling of being trapped – by both Gallino and the larger oil industry – and symbolized the serious danger he faced. In season two, the coyote continues to signify danger, but Tommy’s interaction with it changes; he now confidently tells the coyote he’s survived and escaped death.
The season 2 finale of Landman ultimately reveals what the coyote represents: a constant threat of death and danger that Tommy had to overcome. Throughout the season, Tommy struggled with self-destructive behavior driven by his work, but he finally learned to prioritize his family and his own well-being. He even reconciled with his father, TL. By making these changes, Tommy essentially escaped a life of danger and found real purpose, giving him a life worth living.
Tommy Started A Family Oil Company: CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle Explained

Tommy finally feels his life has purpose now that he’s started his own business, CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle. He explained that ‘CTT’ represents the initials of himself and his friends, Cooper and Thomas. The ‘Cattle’ portion of the name was a practical addition – Tommy needed a unique business name to avoid conflicts with existing companies, and he came up with something unusual to ensure it hadn’t already been taken.
| CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle’s Leadership | |
|---|---|
| Character | Role |
| Cooper Norris | President |
| Tommy Norris | Senior Vice President |
| Thomas “TL” Norris | Oversees Drilling |
| Nate | Treasurer |
| Rebecca Falcone | Chief Operating Officer & Chief Counsel |
| Dale | Head of Exploration |
| Ariana | Office Manager |
Tommy extended roles in his new venture, CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle, to many of the actors from Landman. As he built the company, he arranged for Gallino to fund reimbursements to M-Tex for Cooper’s land leases, canceled the original M-Tex contract, and obtained financing for drilling new wells. Tommy explained he chose to start his own company rather than join an established one because he wanted to prove he still had the drive to succeed.
How Tommy Convinced Gallino To Fund His Oil Company & Cami’s Fate Explained

Even though Tommy had consistently spoken out against Gallino (Andy Garcia) and his connections to the cartel throughout the season, he asked him for financial backing for CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle. Surprisingly, despite already having heavily invested in M-Tex, Gallino provided Tommy with $62 million: $44 million to repurchase Cooper’s land leases and $18 million to begin drilling new, deeper wells on the property.
Honestly, I was pretty shocked Gallino decided to back Tommy’s new oil venture, but it makes sense when you hear Tommy’s reasoning. He really laid out how Cami and M-Tex are likely to struggle with that offshore gas rig – he doesn’t think it’s going to be the goldmine everyone hopes for. And even if they find gas, Tommy pointed out all the potential headaches with getting it out and turning a profit, which could seriously eat into any winnings. He convinced Gallino it was a risky bet, but maybe a smarter one than sticking with Cami and M-Tex.
After demonstrating to Gallino that the offshore rig was unviable, Tommy presented CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle as an oil company that was essential and wouldn’t risk failure. He knew the leases Cooper identified were highly profitable, and the original agreement still benefited Gallino. Ultimately, Tommy persuaded Gallino to invest in CTT by highlighting it as a way to recover the likely losses from his investment in M-Tex.
With M-Tex likely facing bankruptcy, Cami’s position with Landman is uncertain. While M-Tex is probably going to fail, Cami could follow Nate’s advice and sell the company to a larger oil firm. If she doesn’t, she risks losing a significant amount of money. Fortunately, Cami has a substantial trust fund established by Monty, which will provide her with financial security regardless of what happens.
Cooper’s Legal Trouble & How Tommy Got Him Off The Hook Explained

In season 2 of Landman, Cooper stepped in to protect Ariana after she was assaulted. Though Johnny later died of a heart attack following the incident, the Odessa police considered charging Cooper with both assault and murder. Cooper later confessed that his attack on Johnny was excessive – he admitted to hitting Johnny 17 times and intending to cause serious harm, going far beyond simply defending Ariana.
Cooper faced a complicated legal issue that needs clarifying. While Odessa police understood why he defended his fiancée from an attacker, they hinted at charges because Johnny had powerful friends. Ultimately, Cooper avoided charges thanks to Rebecca, who was his lawyer, and Tommy, who used a connection with the sheriff and threatened to involve the media.
What Landman Season 2’s Ending Means For Season 3

The conclusion of Landman season 2 sets up the upcoming season 3. With Tommy now running CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle, the show will likely center on building that new business. While Cami and M-Tex might not be as central to the story, we’ll probably find out what happened with Cami’s company and if the offshore gas rig was successful.
The shift towards CTT also affects Tommy Norris and his loved ones. Tommy is ready to prioritize family and enjoy life more, and with many family members involved in CTT, that should be simpler. While he might still work hard, he’ll now be working alongside his father and son, rather than for someone who lacks experience and is dealing with grief.
With the creation of CTT, there’s hope that the next season of Landman will bring the cartel back into focus. Tommy funded CTT with money from Gallino, giving him a significant financial interest in the company. While Gallino’s cartel connections weren’t explored much in season 2, season 3 is a great chance to show Tommy facing consequences for accepting drug money.
As a big fan of Landman, I’m really excited about what’s coming next season! It sounds like they’re diving deeper into some storylines we already love. We’ll probably see Ainsley navigating college and cheerleading, and Angela dealing with the kids leaving home. Plus, I’m hoping to see Rebecca and Charlie’s relationship really develop, and honestly, it feels like Cooper and Ariana are finally going to tie the knot! Season 3 looks incredibly promising.
