For dog lovers in Heartopia, welcoming a puppy into your home is a truly joyful experience. However, taking care of dogs isn’t immediately available in the game, which can leave players unsure of how to start. Luckily, this guide covers everything you need to know about dog care in Heartopia!
I’m so excited to start my journey in Heartopia! I’m really diving into the Dog Care Hobby and can’t wait to adopt, train, and build a strong bond with my new pup. To make sure I’m totally prepared, I’ve been checking out some helpful guides – the Beginner’s Guide, the co-op guide, and the Hobbies Guide. I also found some great tips on unlocking Home Plots and a Gold Guide to get me started financially. And don’t forget to grab those freebies – I’m definitely checking out the article on Heartopia Redeem Codes! It’s going to be amazing.
How to unlock Dog Care Hobby in Heartopia
You need to reach Developer’s Guild Level 12 before you can adopt a dog. This takes time – you’ll need to consistently complete Resident Requests and earn contribution medals to level up your guild.

After you reach Level 12 in the Developer’s Guild, visit the pet adoption center and talk to Mrs. Joan, the NPC who manages the pets. But that’s not all! You also need to use a Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock and start the Dog Care hobby.
Before you can start Dog Care, you’ll need to unlock and finish the tutorial for Cat Care first. Once you’ve done that, Dog Care will become an option, letting you begin caring for a virtual dog!
How to get a Dog in Heartopia
After unlocking the Dog Care hobby, getting your first dog is easy and fun! Just go back to the adoption center, where you can choose from three dogs and three cats every day.
The dogs available for adoption change every day, so check back if you don’t find a good match today. When you do find a dog you’re interested in, simply select the ‘adopt’ option to begin the process.

You’ll need to pay 500 gold for a check-up for your dog. Once that’s done, you can name your new companion and take them home right away! And don’t worry, Heartopia lets you change your dog’s name later if you decide you want to.
Keep in mind that once you adopt a pet, you can’t return or exchange it, so make sure you’re ready for the commitment! As you progress with the Dog Care Hobby, you’ll be able to adopt more dogs – eventually, you can have up to three. Each dog will have its own unique personality and require different care.

Dog breeds and personality traits in Heartopia
In Heartopia, there are tons of different dog breeds you can choose from, and they all look really unique. It doesn’t actually change how you play the game, but honestly, it makes a huge difference in how much you’ll bond with your pup! I mean, we all have our favorites, so it’s good to know what breeds are available before I decide which one to adopt.
Here are the currently available dog breeds:
- Beagle
- Corgi
- Golden Retriever
- Labrador Retriever
- Poodle
- Rottweiler
- Rural Dog
- Shepherd Dog
- Shiba Inu
- Sled Dog
- Spotted Dog

Beyond a dog’s breed, each one has its own distinct look – things like eye shape and fur pattern – as well as being male or female. But what really makes each dog special are two random personality traits that shape how they act and what you can expect from them.
Below are some dog personality traits in Heartopia:
| Dog Personality | Description |
|---|---|
| Chatterbox | Barks more frequently than other dogs. |
| Clingy | Follows you closely and may damage furniture. |
| Energetic | Wants to play often and stays very active. |
| Indifferent | Shows neutral behavior overall. |
| Quiet | Rarely makes noise. |
| Sensitive | Picky eater and selective with food. |
| Sluggish | Hunger decreases more slowly, and energy is lower. |
| Sociable | Wants frequent interaction and attention. |
| Naughty | More likely to misbehave or get into trouble. |
| Lone Wolf | Prefers being alone. |
| Unsociable | Requires minimal interaction. |
While a dog’s personality influences how they act, it doesn’t limit their progress in Dog Care. Every dog has the ability to learn new tricks, form strong relationships, and achieve their full potential. So, it’s better to pick a dog you truly enjoy playing with, rather than worrying too much about specific traits.
