Okay, so the big reveal on ‘The Masked Singer’ this weekend? It was her! She was the incredibly talented performer hidden inside that amazing Gargoyle costume. What a surprise!
Fans were surprised to discover the true age of Marcella Detroit from Shakespeare’s Sister after seeing how youthful she still looks on the show.
The singer was revealed on a Halloween episode of the ITV show after losing a singing competition against the Sloth costume.
The singer shared a selfie and playfully expressed her surprise at trying Clinique skincare, writing, ‘Sometimes you just need to test out new products!! Clinique?? I never would have guessed!’
Her post sparked many of Marcella’s followers to share their surprise at her complexion.
They wrote: ‘Purdy! Gosh I wish I had skin like yours!; Your skin is beautiful!
Wow, you’re looking great! I was just hearing your song ‘I Believe’ on the radio and decided to see what you’ve been up to. Google says you’re 73, but I don’t believe it – you look much younger in this picture!
‘You are radiant.’
On Saturday’s show, viewers discovered that Marcella was the performer behind the Gargoyle costume. The episode had a particularly spooky feel for this time of year.
Despite some fun performances, Sloth and Gargoyle unfortunately ended up as the two lowest-scoring contestants.
Sloth and Gargoyle competed by performing classic songs: Sloth did a rendition of Tommy Steele’s “Flash Bang Wallop” from 1979, and Gargoyle covered Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “Bad Reputation.”
Unfortunately, Gargoyle was eliminated, and the judges believed the performer could be Cindy Lauper, Joan Jett, Wendy James, Ruby Wax, or Fiona Bruce.
But they were all wrong, with Gargoyle finally being unmasked as Marcella from Shakespears Sister.
Okay, seriously, when they revealed it was Marcella Detroit, I almost fell out of my chair! I genuinely, honestly did not see that coming. I was completely stunned! It was such a shock, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I mean, Marcella?! Wow!
‘The voice totally makes sense now! I knew I bl***y recognised it!’
‘Wow no wonder she can sing.’
‘MY MUM SAID MARCELLA! I had no idea, but she knew!!’
‘NO FRICKIN WAY.’
Marcella expressed her sadness about being eliminated from the competition, describing it as an amazing experience. She highlighted the kindness and support she received from everyone involved, saying they were both helpful and fun to be around.
I received a job offer at the start of summer, and my husband and I have long wanted to move back to England. He’s been incredibly supportive, living with me in America for many years, but he really missed his home country. After the pandemic, we decided we definitely wanted to return to England and spend some time there.
We were incredibly lucky to get this opportunity – it felt like it just fell into our hands, and we immediately knew it was a perfect fit. Plus, we knew it would be a lot of fun!
