Anne Hathaway is set to star in and produce the upcoming Paramount+ true-crime series, Fear Not. Based on a 2023 Vanity Fair article and written by Bash Doran (known for Masters of Sex and The Looming Tower), the show tells the strange story of murderer Stephen Morin and his last victim, Margaret Mayfield Palm. In December 1981, Morin ambushed Palm in a parking lot and forced her to drive him to a bus station where police were waiting to arrest him. According to Variety, Hathaway will play Palm in this dramatic retelling.
Here’s how the official synopsis sells it:
Fear Not recounts the story of Stephen Morin, a serial killer responsible for more crimes than Ted Bundy, and his surprising connection with Margy Palm, his final kidnapping victim. What began as a dangerous hostage situation unexpectedly evolved into a relationship built on compassion, prayer, and bravery. Palm’s strong faith and belief in Morin’s potential for change drove their connection, which continued even after she was rescued – until Morin was sentenced to death.
I was really excited to hear from Jane Wiseman at Paramount+ that they’re constantly searching for amazing stories. She also said that Anne Hathaway is perfect for this role – she’ll bring such depth and seriousness to it that no one else could. I think that’s a great sign of what’s to come!
Has Anne Hathaway Played a Real Person Before?

Universal Pictures
Anne Hathaway, the Academy Award-winning actress, is working again with director Christopher Nolan – they previously collaborated on films like Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises – for his new summer movie, The Odyssey. Hathaway has a history of playing real people, starting with her role as author Jane Austen in the 2007 film Becoming Jane. That movie told the story of Austen’s romance with Thomas Langlois Lefroy, a judge and politician, played by James McAvoy.

In the 2022 miniseries WeCrashed, Anne Hathaway played Rebekah Neumann, the co-founder of WeWork, a once highly-valued co-working company. WeWork was once estimated to be worth $47 billion, but the company’s fortunes collapsed after its financial issues became public. The eight-episode series was adapted from the podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork and received mixed reviews, earning a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. MovieWeb described it as just an okay series.
