Roger Waters doesn’t worry much about what others think, and that’s probably a good thing. He’s a controversial figure – many people, including his old bandmates from Pink Floyd and even fans of artists like Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, don’t seem to be fans.
Roger Waters made insensitive comments about Ozzy Osbourne in 2025, shortly before Osbourne passed away. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, the timing and nature of Waters’ remarks seemed particularly lacking in tact and respect.
When recently questioned about his comments regarding Osbourne, Waters reaffirmed his stance. He doesn’t regret anything he said and stands by his words, despite any criticism he’s received.
Roger Waters keeps talking about Ozzy Osbourne
In an interview with The Independent last year, Waters spoke about Ozzy Osbourne, saying, ‘Bless him, wherever he is now. We’ll never really know what he was like throughout his life, despite all the years he spent on TV acting foolish. Frankly, I don’t care about his music or Black Sabbath at all.’
Roger Waters obviously has some level of regard for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, as he publicly shared his thoughts on them. People generally only express opinions about things they care about. However, Waters may not be as insightful as he appears.
During a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Jack Waters discussed Ozzy Osbourne again, and his comments likely won’t sit well with fans of Black Sabbath or Ozzy himself.
Waters acknowledged making the comments, explaining they were part of a lengthy interview and a reaction to a ridiculous suggestion – that he should enjoy every band, even those known for extreme behavior. He admitted he’d previously said he didn’t like Black Sabbath, but clarified that after listening to them again, he found the music to be alright, and his initial comments were mostly dramatic for effect.
During the interview, Roger Waters, formerly of Pink Floyd, appeared overly focused on the incident involving Ozzy Osbourne biting the heads off bats. While Waters finds the act distasteful, he believes it’s unfair to let that single event overshadow Osbourne’s entire and extensive career.
Roger Waters probably wouldn’t want to be known solely for his controversial statement about Russia and Ukraine, but it’s hard to say for sure – he seems like someone who enjoys expressing his views. Ideally, people will remember him for his music rather than those outspoken opinions.
