Baby-faced former ’80s child star who pivoted to Stranger Things seen in extremely rare public outing

A former child actor from the 1980s, now appearing in the latest season of Stranger Things, was seen in Los Angeles.

This actor started his career young, appearing as one of Michael Keaton and Teri Garr’s children in the 1983 comedy film, Mr. Mom.

The next year, he became known for his role in the popular 1984 sitcom Kate & Allie, which followed two divorced mothers who chose to co-parent their kids together in one home.

He stepped away from making movies for a while to study acting at college, then later returned to working in film.

I was so surprised to see him out and about! Even at 50, he looks unbelievably young. It’s rare to catch a glimpse of him in public, so I was really excited to see how great he still looks.

Can you guess who this star is?

It’s Frederick Koehler!

On Friday, Koehler was seen in West Hollywood, likely doing some shopping or other tasks.

Carrying a shopping bag and dressed warmly for the weather, Koehler walked through the area listening to music with his earbuds.

Koehler was just a child when he started off his acting career.

He first appeared as the son of Michael Keaton and Teri Garr in the 1983 comedy Mr. Mom, and later played Chip Lowell, the son of Jane Curtin, in the series Kate & Allie.

The show featured Tim Curtin and Susan Saint James as two divorced parents who teamed up to raise their kids together in one house.

This film marked his Hollywood debut and, despite being his largest project yet, it launched a long and successful career.

While working on the show, Koehler enjoyed playing with Saint James’ kids. He recalled being happy during those moments in a 2000 interview with People magazine.

Koehler then sought to perfect his craft at school.

He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a drama degree in 1997, hoping to become a more versatile actor.

In 1999, he told People magazine that he was eager to challenge himself as an actor and didn’t want to simply rely on past successes.

He then transitioned to stage acting, performing in theaters in both Los Angeles and New York.

Once he graduated, he continued to book roles in Pearl Harbor, Oz, and Birdseye.

He also made cameos in Ally McBeal, Charmed and the CSI franchise.

The actor followed up with a role in the 2005 movie Domino. In 2006, he appeared in the TV series Pepper Dennis, but the show was cancelled after just one season.

The actor, who first became known as a child, then appeared in the 2008 film Death Race, which went on to become a series of four movies.

He directed four films in the Death Race series: Death Race 2 (2010), Death Race 3: Inferno (2013), and Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy (2018).

Koehler is still actively working as an actor. He recently appeared in the film The Little Things (2021), the first season of the TV series Kombucha Care (2023), and played a scientist in two episodes of the final season of Stranger Things.
