Bradley Walsh has one very relatable reason he doesn’t want to host Strictly Come Dancing

It’s been almost a month since Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly hosted their final episode of Strictly Come Dancing, and people are still actively guessing who will be the new hosts.

Bradley Walsh is a popular choice, especially since he already hosts two successful BBC Saturday night shows: the revived versions of Blankety Blank and Gladiators.

Those other shows aren’t aired live on Saturdays, but Strictly is, and that’s why he won’t be participating.

He described his typical winter weekends to Radio Times, saying he comes home from work on Fridays, eats dinner, and then watches I’m a Celebrity.

Saturday will be a relaxing night – I plan to check the football scores, enjoy dinner and a drink, then watch Strictly and I’m a Celebrity. I’ll finish the night by catching Match of the Day on BBC.

Sundays are my day to relax! I usually sleep in, then watch Columbo, followed by football. After that, I catch up on the Strictly results, I’m a Celebrity, and Match of the Day. Honestly, if I had to work on Strictly itself, it would completely spoil my weekend.

“That’s absolutely right. Every weekend is Dad’s weekend,” his son and Gladiators co-host, Barney, chimed in.

So, every Saturday night, I make sure to watch this medical drama. My son actually joined the cast back in 2023, and I’m super proud to see him on screen!

He said he’s a longtime fan of Casualty and appreciates how the show has become more visually dramatic recently.

Bradley doesn’t think Barney will be able to return the favor and regularly watch him on The Chase, because the show airs at 5pm, which is before Barney finishes work for the day.

Bradley admits he hasn’t watched the show in years because of this, even though he’s present during filming.

Gladiators kicks off its new season at 5.45pm tonight on BBC One and iPlayer.
