Okay, so I’ve been obsessively following Simon Baker’s house reno in Bondi, and it’s finally starting to look like something after over a year! Honestly, it’s been a saga. But apparently, not everyone is as thrilled as I am – I’ve heard the neighbors have been complaining a lot about the whole thing. Still, it’s Simon Baker’s house, so who cares, right?
The 56-year-old Australian actor bought a $6 million cottage in 2022 and is spending $1.4 million renovating it into a large, beach-style home with three bedrooms and a personal studio.
The construction has upset neighbors from the start, with one resident saying they find the noise unbearable.
Honestly, I’ve been hearing from neighbors who are really upset about the new property. Their biggest concern is that it’s going to block their beautiful ocean view, and they’re understandably frustrated about it. It’s a common issue when new builds go up – preserving those existing views is always a delicate balance.
According to a source close to the situation, Simon’s construction workers have been receiving constant complaints ever since the renovations began.
They also mentioned that construction is taking much longer than expected, and now isn’t expected to finish until 2030.

The building is undergoing renovation, revealing its original brick and wooden structure. You can see exposed brickwork, timber framing, and scaffolding on the outside.
The property seems to have been expanded upwards, with a new roofline and modern exterior materials added on top of the original building. New wooden beams were also installed.
In other areas, sections of the original exterior have been modified to create space for bigger windows and doors.
It looks like a new addition has been built at the back or side of the building. The new section uses modern materials that stand out from the original brickwork, which is still visible underneath.
The building’s framework and temporary supports indicate the inside has been remodeled to accommodate these new features.
The landscaping has been updated to complement the new construction. Existing palm trees have been kept, and new plants and borders are being added to blend everything together.
The build will include three bedrooms, a home sauna, outdoor shower, ‘green roof’ and home studio.
I’m so excited about the layout! There are two bedrooms downstairs, and the main one is fantastic – it has a built-in robe and even its own private balcony. It’s going to be perfect!
In 2022, Simon bought the property for $6 million from Ruth Ostrow, a well-known social commentator, who had put it up for sale.
After selling their previous three-bedroom house in Bronte for nearly $17 million, the actor purchased a new home.
I seriously can’t believe they sold their house for that much! It’s insane! I remember when they first bought it back in 2015 – only $6.5 million! And now? A huge profit! I’ve been following them forever, and even I didn’t expect them to make that much on the sale. It’s just…wow!
Simon and Rebecca announced their split in January 2021.
In a joint statement, they told People magazine that they are remaining close friends and that their three children will always be their top priority.
But according to Fox News, they actually separated nine months before in April 2020.
Simon and Rebecca first became acquainted in the early 1990s, and after five years of dating, they got married in 1998.
They share three children together: Stella, 30, Claude, 25, and Harry, 22.
Rebecca is most famous for her work in the films Fatty Finn and Ellie Parker. She also appeared briefly alongside Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire.
Simon appeared in popular TV series like The Mentalist and The Guardian, and also had roles in films such as The Devil Wears Prada.
