A Minecraft Movie 2 Filming Begins In April, Reveals Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa has announced that filming for the sequel to A Minecraft Movie will begin soon. The first Minecraft Movie was a big success when it came out in April 2025, earning $958 million worldwide on a $150 million budget, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics (48% on Rotten Tomatoes). A second movie was quickly planned and is currently scheduled to be released in July 2027.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about his new movie, The Wrecking Crew, Jason Momoa revealed that filming for A Minecraft Movie 2 is scheduled to start in April.

He admitted the script was fantastic. “It’s so good,” he said, “I was actually laughing out loud – something I haven’t done while reading a script in ages.”

Jason Momoa, who plays the character Garrett Garrison, also known as “The Garbage Man,” said he was initially confused by the script for the first Minecraft movie, but didn’t explain why. He was much happier with the script for the sequel, A Minecraft Movie 2, finding it hilarious.
