Lionsgate has just unveiled the first poster for the new John Rambo movie, a prequel starring Noah Centineo. This announcement coincides with the official start of filming, which will delve into the backstory of the iconic character.
Noah Centineo-led John Rambo movie gets first poster
Filming has begun on a new movie telling the origin story of John Rambo. The production is taking place in various locations throughout Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi. The first poster for the film was released on January 30, 2026, via the official X account @JohnRamboFilm, and confirmed that Noah Centineo will star as the younger Rambo.
Jalmari Helander, the director behind films like Sisu and Big Game, is helming the new Rambo installment. He shared that seeing the original First Blood when he was eleven years old profoundly impacted him, inspiring his desire to become a filmmaker. Helander describes his vision for the new film as a stripped-down, authentic survival story focused on resilience, determination, and the loss of innocence.
This new movie tells the story of John Rambo’s time in the Vietnam War, showing what shaped him into the character we know from the original ‘First Blood’ film. It reveals his early life and the experiences that made him who he is.
The cast now includes Yao (from Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus). Sylvester Stallone first played Rambo in the 1982 film, First Blood. While he isn’t currently involved, producers haven’t ruled out the possibility of him joining the project later.
As a huge Rambo fan, I’m really excited about this new prequel! The original series, which finished with ‘Last Blood’ in 2019, was incredible. This one is going back to the very beginning to show us how Rambo became the legend we know, and while Sylvester Stallone isn’t involved right now, I’m still hopeful it’ll be a great story.
