The Rip ending explained: Who killed Jackie and why?

Let’s get straight to the point: Detective Mike Ro and DEA Agent Mateo ‘Matty’ Nix were responsible for Jackie’s death. He was getting close to exposing their involvement in a corrupt group that robbed drug cartels, stealing money from their operations.

Jackie learned about a large illegal storage location in Haileah, Florida, through her source, Desi, who had recently inherited the property from her grandmother. Jackie planned to use the house to expose corrupt police officers, but Mike and Matty killed her before she could. Luckily, she had already passed the information about the stash house on to Dane.

Throughout much of The Rip, it seems like Dane is planning to keep the over $20 million for himself and his crew. But it turns out this was a trick to uncover the dishonest detective within their group – who was actually Mike.

During the planning for the raid, the team leader intentionally gave each member a different estimate of how much money was hidden in the stash house. Once they found the cash, a message arrived suggesting no one should get hurt over $150,000. This amount confirmed to the leader that Mike was the corrupt detective, as that was the figure he’d told Mike was hidden there.

It’s still unclear who he was working with until Matty arrives, planning to deliver the money to a bank controlled by the DEA. While they’re traveling, JD and Dane begin to suspect Matty, and their suspicions are confirmed when Mike calls the last number on a disposable phone, which leads directly to him.

I couldn’t believe what was happening! Turns out, JD had already gotten his brother, who’s in the FBI, involved before Dane even told him what he was up to. Then, Matty and Mike tried to run, but JD went after Matty and… well, he killed him. It was all about getting revenge for Jackie, someone JD really cared about. Eventually, Dane found Mike and Mike just gave up, letting Dane arrest him. It was a total mess!

Okay, so it turns out the DEA van never had any real money in those bags! It was just a bunch of Yellow Pages pulled from the stash house. The actual twenty million dollars never even left the house – the DEA has it now, and they’ve confirmed the amount to clear JD, Dane, and the whole team. It’s such a relief to know they’re in the clear!

Everyone ended up satisfied after the ordeal. Desi will receive 20% of the money from the stash house as payment for being the initial informant. Meanwhile, JD and Dane found peace, watching the sunrise on a beach and symbolically honoring Jackie’s memory by removing the bands from their shields, having successfully brought her killer to justice.
