Netflix added a lot of new movies in January 2026, including the new crime thriller, The Rip, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. While The Rip is expected to be a huge hit this weekend, here are three lesser-known movies leaving Netflix soon that you should check out before they’re gone.
This weekend, Netflix is losing three great movies: a sports film with a thoughtful message, a high-octane action blockbuster from the ’90s with major stars, and a darkly fascinating thriller from the 2000s that’s become a cult favorite. Don’t miss your chance to watch them all before they disappear!
Face/Off
If you’re a fan of the action film Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, you’ll want to watch it this weekend! It’s leaving Netflix on Monday, January 19th. The 1997 movie, directed by John Woo, received a lot of praise from critics and is considered a classic of the action genre.
John Travolta stars as Sean Archer, an FBI agent determined to stop a dangerous terrorist plot. To get close to the villain, Castor Troy – played by Nicolas Cage and responsible for the death of Sean’s son, Michael – Sean undergoes a radical surgery to take on Castor’s face. This classic action film from the late 90s is a must-see while it’s available.
The Hill
The movie The Hill, which premiered in theaters briefly in 2023, is currently available on Netflix but will be removed on January 19th. It stars Dennis Quaid and is based on the inspiring true story of Rickey Hill, who overcame a serious spinal condition to achieve his dream of playing Major League Baseball.
Dennis Quaid portrays the father of Rickey Hill, a pastor who doubts his son’s ambitious goal of playing professional baseball. The movie is deeply inspiring and will appeal to those who enjoy timeless baseball films such as Field of Dreams and The Natural. Be sure to catch this feel-good sports story this weekend before it’s gone.
Donnie Darko
The popular and thought-provoking film Donnie Darko will no longer be available on Netflix after this weekend. If you want to watch it on the streaming service, you’ll need to do so before Sunday, January 18th. Featuring a memorable and unsettling performance from Jake Gyllenhaal (and his sister Maggie), this indie film has been a fan favorite for 25 years, since it first came out in 2001.
The film Donnie Darko centers around a troubled teenager who is warned by a creepy figure in a rabbit costume that the world will soon end. With a cast including Seth Rogen, Patrick Swayze, and Noah Wyle, Donnie Darko is a must-see movie, and it’s currently available to stream on Netflix.
