According to a returning cast member, production on Incredibles 3 is expected to begin shortly. The original The Incredibles, released in 2004, is a beloved Pixar film that received four Oscar nominations (including Best Original Screenplay) and won two awards (including Best Animated Feature). It was followed by Incredibles 2 in 2018, which earned over $1.2 billion worldwide.
Pixar announced at D23 in 2024 that a third Incredibles movie was in the works. While Brad Bird directed the first two films (Ratatouille, The Iron Giant) and voiced the character Edna Mode, Peter Sohn (Elemental) will direct the third installment. Brad Bird is still contributing by writing the screenplay.
Okay, so I just heard some exciting news! Holly Hunter, who voices Elastigirl in The Incredibles, was chatting with ScreenRant about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and she let slip that they’re planning to start working on Incredibles 3 around March! She didn’t give away any plot details, though – she says she’s still in the dark about what the story will be. But still, March! That’s awesome. You can read the full interview for yourself if you want.
ScreenRant: Incredibles 3 is happening. It’s been greenlit. Do you know about it?
Holly Hunter: I think I start in March.
ScreenRant: How cool is the story?
I honestly never know what’s going on with the Incredibles stories. I just go in and record my lines with Brad Bird, or whoever is writing the script this time – I think it’s him again, which is great!

Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Vowell returned to voice characters in the Incredibles films. For the second movie, Incredibles 2, Huck Milner, Catherine Keener, and Bob Odenkirk joined the cast. While Incredibles 2 received positive reviews and a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn’t quite achieve the same critical success as the original, which earned a 97% score.
Though it lost the Oscar for Best Animated Feature to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Incredibles 2 was a major box office success, boosted by fans eagerly awaiting a sequel to the original The Incredibles, which had previously earned $630 million. Currently, Incredibles 2 is Pixar’s second-highest-grossing film, surpassed only by Inside Out 2.
Pixar’s future movie plans show they’re continuing to rely on sequels, as films like Toy Story 5 (coming June 19th) and a Coco sequel are already in the works. While the film Elio didn’t perform well in theaters, Pixar hasn’t given up on original ideas; they have two new original features planned, Hoppers (March 2026) and Gatto (March 2027).
Disney has previously stated that Incredibles 3 is planned for release in 2028, and recent updates suggest they’re still on track. The Incredibles movies have consistently performed well, so fans are eager to see if the third installment will continue that success.
