Nicole Richie has been spotted out in public for the first time since her teenage daughter, Harlow, announced she’s now going by the name Kate.
I was so excited to see Nicole Richie at the Nude by Nature launch party! I saw photos from the event – it was at Ardor, inside The Edition Hotel in Los Angeles, and she looked amazing. Daily Mail had the pictures, and it was a really fun event to follow.
The 44-year-old celebrity wore a black suit with a cream-colored blouse and had her hair pulled back while chatting with Kathy Hilton, Paris Hilton’s mother, and Malika Haqq, a close friend of Khloe Kardashian.
They were celebrating the official US debut of Australian clean beauty brand, Nude by Nature.

According to a source who spoke with Daily Mail, she appeared cheerful and approachable. She mentioned her family was thriving and had enjoyed a lovely holiday season, and they all seem very close.
This news follows shortly after Richie spoke with her daughter about her new identity, following the teen’s announcement of her transition on her 18th birthday.
The TV star recently celebrated a big moment for her oldest child. She and her husband, Joel Madden, are also parents to a 16-year-old son named Sparrow.
Richie shared a heartwarming Instagram post dedicated to her daughter, posting old photos. Fans noticed a change when Richie tagged her – it seems her daughter, previously known as Harlow, now goes by Kate, her middle name.
She also underwent a striking makeover, swapping her light blonde hair for a dark, jet-black shade.
‘Yeah, she goes by her middle name,’ Richie told People. ‘She has her whole life.’
When asked about the reaction to her name change on social media, the celebrity explained, ‘I haven’t checked, but it makes sense – she actually goes by her middle name.’
Richie recently used her Instagram to celebrate her oldest child’s birthday.
She shared a collection of photos showing how her daughter has grown up, including a picture of her holding the baby and recent photos as well.
The celebrity wrote a sweet message to her 7.2 million followers, celebrating 18 years with @katemaddennn. She finished the post with a red heart and a cake emoji.
Richie recently shared a photo on Instagram of her daughter, who now has black hair.
The proud mom wrote a message over the photo, saying, ‘My favorite person is turning 18 today! Happy birthday, @katemaddennn. I love you!’
One fan questioned if it was someone’s birthday and if they’d changed their name. Another fan agreed, wondering if it was meant to be Harlow.
People left supportive comments, including a message from Kate’s father and the lead singer of Good Charlotte, who wrote, ‘That’s my girl ❤️✨.’
Cameron Diaz’s husband, Benji Madden, also posted a heartfelt message, saying, ‘Watching Kate turn 18 brought tears to my eyes! I love you, Kate! You’re amazing and don’t you ever forget it! Happy 18th birthday!’
Richie has talked before about the experience of raising her two children, who are now teenagers.
In a 2024 interview with Interview Magazine, she described motherhood as both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
The same year, the TV personality got candid about raising Kate and Sparrow as they became teens.
I vividly remember being a teenager—it feels like yesterday, honestly. And my kids are aware of everything I did back then,” she told Glamour.
I realized even before meeting them that honesty about my true self was essential, and surprisingly, being open has been incredibly liberating.
She explained that she didn’t want her children to unexpectedly learn something significant about her. She’s always prioritized open and honest communication with them, and hopes they feel comfortable doing the same with her.
Richie also told Today that her ‘favorite stage’ of parenting so far has been raising teenagers.
The reality star said it’s amazing how easily she can recall being sixteen, as the memories are still very vivid.
Whenever my daughter shares stories about her friend troubles, I always have a similar experience to recall. I even remember the full names of the people involved, which is amusing. It’s surprising how much I remember, and it’s actually really nice.
In addition to being a mother, Richie is also actively working in the entertainment business.
She teamed up with her good friend Paris Hilton again for the 2024 season of ‘Paris & Nicole: The Encore,’ marking 20 years since their original show, ‘The Simple Life.’
That year, the actor also appeared in a new version of the 1991 movie, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.
In a recent interview with Interview Magazine, Richie shared her thoughts on getting older, describing her 40s as ‘the most fun decade’ of her life.
