A new Netflix series based on an Agatha Christie mystery, and featuring an actor from the Harry Potter films, is quickly becoming a hit. Netflix has become known for its murder mystery shows, including adaptations of Harlan Coben novels and original series like The Beast in Me. But the streaming service also enjoys bringing classic mystery stories to life.
Their newest production, Seven Dials, is based on Agatha Christie’s 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. The story centers on the aftermath of a murder at a house party, with Lady Bundle Brent investigating to find the killer. The show features Helena Bonham Carter, known for her role in Harry Potter, in a significant part.
As of January 16, 2026, Seven Dials is the second most popular TV show on Netflix in the United States. It’s currently performing better than several other titles, including the comedy specials Marcello Hernández: American Boy and Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas, and the Stephen King miniseries 11/22/63. Only the mystery drama His & Hers, starring Jon Bernthal, is currently more popular.

Mia McKenna-Bruce stars as Lady Brent in Seven Dials, alongside Edward Bluemel, Iain Glen, and Martin Freeman. The series was created for Netflix by Chris Chibnall, who also created Broadchurch and worked as a showrunner on Doctor Who. Chibnall wrote all the episodes, and Chris Sweeney directed them.
Critics have had a mixed reaction to the series, giving it a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviews, particularly from Seven Dials, praise the intriguing mystery, they also point out that the show’s tone is inconsistent. Despite this, the series has proven popular with audiences in the US.
Netflix has consistently found success with mystery shows, as seen with the popular 2024 miniseries Fool Me Once, which briefly ranked among the platform’s all-time top 10 English-language series. So, it’s no surprise that Seven Dials is currently a hit, landing a prominent position in the US Top 10. Its recent release on January 15th has likely contributed to its quick popularity.
It’s still uncertain if the miniseries will stay at the top of Netflix’s charts in the US, but it has a good chance of continued success if viewers enjoy it. Reviews suggest the Agatha Christie mystery is easy to follow, which should attract a broad audience and help maintain its popularity.
