28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is now showing in cinemas globally. The filmmakers – director Nia DaCosta, writer Alex Garland, and producer Danny Boyle, along with Sony Pictures – hope audiences will experience it in theaters. However, they understand that isn’t possible for everyone, as more people are now watching movies at home through streaming and digital platforms, which has changed how films are released.
Many people now choose to watch movies at home because it’s comfortable, convenient, and allows them to avoid crowds and enjoy their own snacks. It can also be cheaper for families and groups. If you’re hoping to watch “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” at home, Sony hasn’t announced when it will be available to stream or rent digitally yet.
Because of how the studio runs and existing agreements, we have information that lets us make a better guess about when 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will be available to stream.

As a big fan of Sony movies, I’ve noticed they’ve been showing up on Netflix pretty consistently after their theatrical release, which is great since Sony doesn’t have its own streaming platform. Looking at data for 2025, it seems like Sony films are typically available on Netflix around 99 days after hitting cinemas, though most often it’s either after 90 or 120 days. It’s a pretty reliable timeframe for when I can enjoy them at home!
While information about The Bone Temple is helpful, the way Sony released 28 Years Later on streaming is key. The highly anticipated zombie film became available on Netflix 92 days after it first appeared in theaters. This created a lot of buzz, and 28 Years Later quickly became a global success on the platform.
We can expect the next movie to become available on streaming around the same time as 28 Years Later. If Sony follows the same plan, The Bone Temple will likely premiere on Netflix around mid-April, with Saturday, April 18th being the most likely date.
Netflix will release The Bone Temple no later than May 16th, which is about four months after its theatrical release. Sony hasn’t kept a movie off streaming for longer than that in over a year. If The Bone Temple performs exceptionally well in theaters, it might get an even longer run before becoming available on Netflix, though even 28 Years Later didn’t have that long of a wait.

Instead of waiting until April to watch the new zombie film, The Bone Temple, on Netflix, it will be available digitally much sooner. While Sony usually releases movies for digital purchase or rental about 34 days after their theatrical debut, 28 Years Later stayed in theaters for a longer period – it wasn’t available digitally for 39 days.
As a big fan, I’m hearing Sony might handle the release of the sequel much like they did with the first film’s comeback. If that’s the plan, it looks like we can expect The Bone Temple to hit digital platforms around February 24th. However, if the movie doesn’t perform as well as they’d hoped, there’s a chance they could move up the digital release to either February 10th or 17th.
If you want to watch 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, you’ll need to see it in theaters now. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait about a month to rent or buy it digitally, or three months if you have a Netflix subscription.
