Saturday Night Live alum Chris Redd says Kenan Thompson wasn’t mystery attacker amid rift between former friends

Chris Redd, a former cast member on Saturday Night Live, has stated that his falling out with Kenan Thompson didn’t involve any physical violence, clarifying details about a 2022 assault he experienced that remains unsolved.

In a video released by TMZ on Thursday, Redd, age 40, stated that Tristan Thompson, 47, wasn’t the one who punched him at a Manhattan comedy club in 2022.

Kenan didn’t hit me,” the St. Louis native clarified. “People assumed he did, but that’s not true.

According to a New York Police Department spokesperson who spoke with TMZ, the investigation is still active and no arrests have been made regarding the attack on the comedian.

Daily Mail has reached out to the NYPD and reps for Thompson for further comment on this story.

Redd and Thompson had a falling out because Redd had been communicating with Thompson’s former wife, Christina Evangeline. Redd alluded to these relationships in a social media post on January 6th but didn’t mention her by name.

Redd shared online that he and Evangeline grew close romantically after she supported him while he stopped taking prescription drugs, which he described as a struggle with medication.

Redd explained that a woman believed to be Evangeline was the only one who truly helped him start getting better, and he eventually fell in love with her.

Redd admitted he immediately had a negative feeling about becoming involved with a colleague’s ex-wife, recognizing it was a difficult situation from the beginning.

He called the dynamics involved an ’emotional double-edged sword.’

Said Redd: ‘I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.’

Thompson and Evangeline divorced in 2022 after being married for eleven years. They have two children together.

In late 2022, TMZ reported that Evangeline’s relationships with Thompson and Redd didn’t overlap, meaning there was no cheating involved.

Redd admitted he started dating Evangeline because he was afraid of never experiencing real love. He explained, ‘I didn’t understand love, and I didn’t want to miss out on it.’

Redd said of his romance with his colleague’s ex-wife: ‘I was in love and I was spiraling out.’

He stated he had seen all the responses to the news, emphasizing he hadn’t missed a single comment.

From 2017 to 2022, Redd and Thompson were featured performers on Saturday Night Live. In 2018, they won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, jointly with Will Stephen and Eli Brueggemann, for their song parody, ‘Come Back, Barack’.

During a recent interview on Wednesday, Red revealed he misused the prescription drugs Xanax and Adderall while working on the NBC variety show, where he was known for his celebrity impressions, including those of Kanye West and Eric Adams.

Redd explained he chose to buy drugs from street dealers rather than see a doctor, fearing he’d be seen as mentally ill.

Redd admitted to selling pills to students at his school, but refused to identify who he sold them to, saying he didn’t want to ‘snitch.’ He later retracted the statement in an Instagram post earlier this month.

Redd described the environment at Saturday Night Live as unwelcoming, explaining that his coworkers gossiped about him while he was struggling with panic attacks.

‘It’s crazy that somebody would watch you destroy yourself,’ Redd said.
