Sean Penn and his girlfriend, Valeria Nicov, were recently photographed holding hands, offering a glimpse of their relationship. This came shortly after Penn received some criticism for smoking inside the venue at the Golden Globe Awards.
The 65-year-old film icon, who recently caused a stir by smoking in the non-smoking Beverly Hilton hotel, spent some private moments with his 30-year-old partner.
I’ve been keeping an eye on this couple – they’ve been looking really happy together since September 2024, and I spotted them out shopping the other day. They seemed to be having a great time, enjoying a little retail therapy!
The two-time Oscar winner chose a relaxed look with a navy blazer and white shirt. Nicov stood out in a classic all-black outfit.
During Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony, Sean Penn was seen smoking, which many viewers noticed.
Sean Penn could be fined for smoking a cigarette inside the building. California law has prohibited indoor smoking since 1995.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says fines for a first-time violation of the law can be between $81 and $324, or $100.
During the Golden Globes, Sean Penn was seen smoking near Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Hudson, seemingly unable to go without a cigarette.
Okay, so there’s been a bit of buzz online – people noticed a potential fine related to someone smoking at a recent, very glamorous event. Honestly, the reaction has been pretty strong, with many calling the person out as arrogant for seemingly disregarding the rules. It’s a reminder that even at high-profile events, we all need to be mindful of the regulations in place. It’s just not a good look to flaunt those kinds of things, you know?
The actor recently faced criticism for smoking cigarettes continuously during a press event at the 2024 Marrakech International Film Festival.
Los Angeles now prohibits smoking and vaping in all areas where it’s already smoke-free.
As a lifestyle observer, I’ve definitely kept an eye on Sean Penn over the years. Beyond his incredible acting career, he’s become known just as much for his relationships – he’s dated some major stars like Madonna, Robin Wright, and Charlize Theron. But it’s not just his love life that gets attention; he’s also earned a reputation for being a bit of a firebrand and sometimes, well, let’s just say his behavior has been a little controversial.
Sean Penn’s troubles with the law began in 1985 when he assaulted two journalists in Nashville who were trying to photograph him with Madonna. This act of violence started a series of incidents that ultimately led to his imprisonment in 1987.
Before making the film Colors, Penn was already facing legal trouble. He was on probation due to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an assault on songwriter David Wolinski at a Los Angeles nightclub called Helena’s.

He was required to follow the rules of his probation carefully, but a chaotic situation occurred while he was filming, damaging his reputation even more.
In 1987, Penn had another brush with the law after punching an extra on the set of his film Colors.
He was arrested and given a 60-day jail sentence for assaulting Jeffrey Klein. He ultimately served 33 days of that sentence.
During an interview with Julia Roberts last year, Sean Penn shared his thoughts on ‘cancel culture’ and a perceived lack of accountability, while they talked about her film ‘After The Hunt,’ which deals with themes related to the Me-Too movement.
Much of the conversation centered on Julia Roberts’ new film, After The Hunt. The movie tells the story of a college professor whose life is turned upside down when a student accuses a coworker of sexual assault, ultimately revealing a hidden trauma from the professor’s own past.
This movie explores what happens when someone’s loyalty to others clashes with what they believe is right and wrong.

Penn commented that he found the film’s willingness to challenge the notion of always avoiding discomfort to be a welcome change. He also expressed a surprising opinion, suggesting that shame isn’t necessarily a bad thing and asking why people shouldn’t feel it sometimes.
This Malibu resident has been divorced three times and is a two-time Academy Award winner. He received the awards for his roles in the 2004 crime thriller Mystic River, directed by Clint Eastwood, and the 2009 biographical film Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant.
In November 2022, Sean Penn gifted one of his Oscars to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This happened eight months after the Academy wouldn’t let Zelenskyy give a speech at the Oscars, despite allowing Will Smith to assault Chris Rock during the same event.
Penn admitted it was a small, almost meaningless gesture, but knowing it was there with him would give him strength and confidence during difficult times.
If you succeed, please come back to Malibu – it would mean a lot to me to know a part of me is still here.
