Real Housewife Heather Gay, 51, reveals if she will stop GLP-1 after dramatic weight loss

Heather Gay, known from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has lost weight using GLP-1 medications.

Now the 51-year-old reality TV star has shared if she plans to go off the weight loss drug.

She firmly said no, despite being a spokesperson for Atkins, according to an interview with UsWeekly on Thursday. She explained that she uses the Atkins diet to ensure she’s getting proper nutrition while also managing her weight with GLP-1 medication.

She shared with the site that GLP-1 is helping her, and she’s thankful for the positive impact it’s having. Her main priority is simply feeling good.

She explained that taking care of herself is a regular part of her day, just like making healthy food choices.

Originally created in 2005, GLP-1 medications were designed to help people manage high blood sugar caused by type 2 diabetes, as reported by the Mayo Clinic.

New research shows these medications may also contribute to weight loss.

Several popular medications containing semaglutide, like Ozempic and Rybelsus, are FDA-approved to treat diabetes. Another medication, Wegovy, is FDA-approved for weight management.

‘I feel healthy every day. I feel like I am taking care of my body. And for my whole life, I’ve just been trying to, like, work around my body,’ she explained.

She’s glad she didn’t have to adjust to a larger body size. She used to think she just had to live with how she looked and felt, believing she couldn’t change anything. It left her feeling completely helpless.

I’ve attempted countless diets over the years. I’ve always been conscious of my weight, and if I wasn’t, others quickly pointed it out.

She is now on Atkins because ‘the industry pioneer of the low-carb movement.’ 

The program is helping her find the right balance of nutrition and protein. 

Gay shared that she’s recently become much more aware of what she eats. She’s discovered she needs protein to stay in shape and energized, and fiber helps her overall well-being.

‘It’s really hard to eat within, like, what your body wants and my hunger now.’

I’ve really enjoyed this collaboration,” Gay said. “I even got my nails painted red to match the Atkins branding, which shows how much it’s become a part of my lifestyle.

I’m entering a new phase where I feel good in my own skin, I’m managing my weight well, and I’m getting a lot of focus on that progress.
