Country star who vanished from the spotlight 25 years ago resurfaces with viral Jessie James Decker duet

A rising country music star who famously disappeared from the spotlight has unexpectedly resurfaced in a viral video, surprising fans who haven’t seen her in years.

I still remember when Jessica Andrews first came onto the scene – it was incredible! She was only fifteen years old when she got signed to DreamWorks Nashville, and it felt like she became famous overnight. Most kids her age were still figuring out what they wanted to do with their lives, and she was already a rising star!

Her song “Who I Am,” released in 2001, was a major success and helped launch her career. It reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, establishing her as a rising star.

Following the release of her album Now in 2003, Andrews intentionally reduced her musical output, releasing only a few songs over the next twenty years.

Her absence even sparked confusion last year when an impostor released music under her name.

Twenty-five years after leaving the music scene, singer Andrews is back in the spotlight. Country star Jessie James Decker shared a video of them performing a new version of Andrews’ song, “Who I Am,” which quickly went viral.

Decker asked if anyone remembered a popular country song from their youth. He shared that he’s been friends with Jess for a long time, describing her as a kind person and a talented singer.

In the video, Andrews and Decker are sitting on some stairs, playfully singing back and forth to the melody of one of Andrews’ popular songs, and they sound great together.

As a lifestyle expert, I often talk about the power of family and legacy, and this song really captures that feeling. The singer powerfully proclaims their connection – they’re Rosemary’s granddaughter and look just like their father. It’s a deeply personal moment, and you can really feel the emotion in that second verse – it’s all about honoring where you come from.

I’m not perfect – I can be a bit lost and awkward at times. But I’m lucky to have friends who truly care about me and understand who I am, flaws and all. That’s just me, and I embrace it.

The Daily Mail has not received a response to its request for comment from Andrews.

Fans quickly flooded the comments, thrilled to see Andrews back.

‘Oh my God, Haven’t heard this song in like 20 yrs!! Loved it so much,’ wrote one.

Someone else excitedly commented, ‘I’m totally obsessed with this song! It’s amazing to see you two working together, I love it!’

However, the reunion is happening while a strange situation threatens to tarnish Andrews’ career: someone has been falsely releasing music claiming it’s hers on streaming services.

Andrews herself opened up about the impostor during her 2025 interview with Bobby Bones.

It started with a few leaked songs, but quickly grew into something much bigger – including fake albums with bad quality cover art, incorrectly labeled singles, and even a pop cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ falsely attributed to an artist named Andrews.

Andrews explained to Bones that after the band finished playing pre-written songs, they’d improvise and sing, and then release those recordings as if they were Andrews’ own work.

She said that if you check Apple Music now, you’ll find a lot of poor-quality, awful-sounding music. She emphasized that the audio quality is really bad.

She admitted she was worried people might misinterpret her new songs, saying, “It’s awful to think they might get the wrong idea.”

The person pretending to be Andrews has allegedly given interviews, signed agreements, and even signed items for fans, all while using Andrews’ name.

Fans have been left confused when they show up to events the impostor never intended to play.

Legal efforts to stop the fake releases have so far failed.

Despite all the chaos, the real Jessica Andrews has stayed mostly out of the public eye.

She’s married to Marcel Chagnon, who is a singer, producer, and director, and generally keeps her private life to herself. She doesn’t share much online, and her Instagram account is private.
