3 Movies Netflix Added This Month That Scored 90% or Higher on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix updates its movie selection every month, removing some titles and adding new ones. With so many choices, it can be hard to find something good to watch. That’s why we’ve put together a list of three movies we know you’ll enjoy.

We’ve gathered three highly-rated movies – covering everything from sci-fi to history – that were added to Netflix in January 2026. While critics aren’t always spot-on, these films all have great Rotten Tomatoes scores, and we’re confident you’ll find something new to enjoy!

‘Green Room’ (90%)

The 2016 film Green Room stands out as a horror movie that critics actually praised. Set in the Pacific Northwest, it tells the story of a punk band who accidentally witness a murder and are then hunted by a dangerous group of neo-Nazi skinheads, with Patrick Stewart playing their leader. Though the basic idea is straightforward, Green Room, written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier (Rebel Ridge), is far from a typical survival horror film.

Featuring strong performances from Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, and Callum Turner, Green Room is a brutally intense horror film that maintains its relentless pace from beginning to end. It’s a disturbing exploration of how easily life can be taken, and offers no easy comfort. Instead, it’s a film that lingers in your mind, showcasing the ordinary nature of evil long after you’ve finished watching.

‘District 9’ (90%)

Considered a landmark science fiction film of the 21st century, District 9 is the first feature film by director Neill Blomkamp. It tackles complex issues like fear of outsiders, the negative impact of large corporations, segregation, and what it means to have an identity. Released in 2009, the movie centers around an alien race that arrives on Earth sick and in poor condition, and are then forced to live in a camp in South Africa. Over time, the local population begins to resent them, seeing them as a problem. When conflict erupts, a private military contractor is sent to control the situation, and one man must choose where his loyalties lie.

Critically acclaimed for its powerful story, realistic documentary style, and insightful look at society, District 9 received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Despite not winning any awards, this science fiction film by director Blomkamp continues to resonate with audiences just as strongly now as it did over ten years ago.

’12 Years a Slave’ (95%)

While District 9 didn’t win many awards, 12 Years a Slave was a major success at the Academy Awards, even winning Best Picture. The 2013 film, directed by Steve McQueen, tells the true story of Solomon Northup, a free Black man from New York who was kidnapped and forced into slavery in 1841.

Chiwetel Ejiofor gives a compelling performance in 12 Years a Slave, a deeply moving and honest film about the horrors of slavery and how readily cruelty can be accepted. Though often difficult to watch due to its raw portrayal of the subject matter, the film is enhanced by a strong supporting cast featuring Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, and Alfre Woodard.
