Deadpool Addresses New Movie With Wolverine In MCU’s Phase 7

A recent Deadpool appearance hinted at a possible team-up with Wolverine in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, potentially in Phase 7. After years of fan requests, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman finally shared the screen as their characters in 2024, and their movie was a huge hit. Now, fans are excited to see what Marvel Studios has planned for the pair next, building on their successful first collaboration.

As a huge Marvel fan, I was really excited to see a new clip from the game Marvel Rivals showing Deadpool and Wolverine together! Someone on X, @TsunamiJaysuke, shared it, and it’s got me thinking – could this be a hint at a Deadpool & Wolverine sequel already being planned for Phase 7 of the MCU? Marvel Rivals is a team-based shooter coming out January 16th, and it looks awesome. The story is about Doctor Doom messing with time, causing different realities to collide, and you get to play as a bunch of Marvel heroes to stop him from destroying everything. It’s got six different game modes and looks like a fun way to explore the Marvel universe!

The scene opens with Deadpool making light of teaming up with Wolverine, then he shifts the conversation to the huge international success of the first Deadpool movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which earned more than $1.3 billion globally.

Deadpool: “Another fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into, eh, partner?”

Wolverine: “I’m not your partner, Wade. Never have been, never will be.”

Deadpool: “Uh, take one look at the international box office. That’ll change your mind.”

Wade Wilson jokingly suggested he and Logan could team up for another movie, but said fans will likely have to wait until Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for that to happen.

Wolverine says, “Honestly, I have no idea what you’re going on about… So, are we going to do this or just stand here?”

Deadpool: “I’m itching for a sequel, too, buddy! But we have to wait ’til at least Phase 7.”

Wolverine: “Whatever. If you’re not up for the fight, guess I’ll have to do it alone. Later, bub.”

Deadpool and Wolverine recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe during its Phase 5, which is scheduled to end in 2025 with the film Thunderbolts. Now, Marvel is moving into Phase 6, currently planned to finish in 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars. Sources say Marvel is eager to continue Deadpool’s adventures in the MCU and is determined to have Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine in a fourth Deadpool movie.

Currently, Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced what movies and shows will be part of Phase 7, which is expected to start in 2028. However, eight new Marvel Cinematic Universe projects are scheduled for release in 2026, and so far, the only confirmed release for 2027 is Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17th.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Future Before Phase 7

With Marvel Studios not starting Phase 7 for another two years and having no current projects scheduled, it will likely be a while before we see the next Deadpool and Wolverine movie. Ryan Reynolds has stated he wants to carefully develop the story and isn’t interested in rushing production just to release another film.

The most likely next project for Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds would be a film like Avengers: Doomsday, which already includes several former X-Men characters. Bringing back Wolverine would fill out the team, making it resemble the classic X-Men cartoon lineup. Plus, it would finally give Reynolds’ Deadpool the chance to interact with the heroes he’s always joked about and dreamed of teaming up with.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have hinted at the possibility of their characters appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, but they haven’t officially confirmed anything. If they do return for the next phase of Marvel movies, any announcement probably won’t happen until late next year, near the end of Phase 6.

Even before any official announcement, both actors are strongly predicted to appear in another big film, especially after Deadpool and Wolverine broke records as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever.
