Netflix’s New 3-Part Agatha Christie Mystery Series Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Netflix has just launched Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, and early reviews are very positive. While many know Agatha Christie for detectives like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, this new series features a different character: Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (played by Mia McKenna-Bruce), who investigates when a harmless prank takes a dark turn.

The new Netflix mystery, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, has earned a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on the first five reviews. An audience score isn’t available yet, as the show was just released.

Early reviews of the Netflix series are positive, with many praising its fast pace and easy watchability. While the show isn’t perfect in terms of its overall mood, critics are especially impressed with the acting, particularly the performance by McKenna-Bruce.

A ScreenRant review of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials pointed out that the series had trouble finding the right balance, but was saved by a captivating performance from the lead actress, who brought a delightful charm to her character. The reviewer also noted the show takes a few episodes to really get going, and appears to be building towards a second season.

Despite the source material already being well-regarded, this new adaptation of the story is a success. The character Bundle first appeared in the 1925 novel The Secret of Chimneys, and was later featured in The Seven Dials Mystery from 1929.

Unlike many of Agatha Christie’s popular novels, The Seven Dials Mystery didn’t receive very positive reviews. Critics and readers felt it was different from her typical writing, and this unevenness carried over into the television series, with reviewers noting its inconsistent plot.

This is just the second time Agatha Christie’s relatively unknown novel has been brought to the screen. Back in 1981, London Weekend Television made a TV movie adaptation starring Cheryl Campbell as the detective Bundle. While it doesn’t have a critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers gave it a lukewarm rating of 53%.

Ultimately, whether or not the new Netflix series continues depends on how many people watch it. Netflix hasn’t said if there will be a second season, but if it happens, it would likely move beyond the original Agatha Christie novels.

Now, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is available on Netflix, adding to the streaming service’s impressive lineup of murder mysteries, which already includes the popular Knives Out films and the Enola Holmes series starring Millie Bobby Brown.

Chris Chibnall, who previously ran the show Doctor Who, developed the Netflix series, and Chris Sweeney directed every episode. The cast features Freya McKenna-Bruce, along with Martin Freeman, known for his role in Sherlock, and Helena Bonham Carter, famous for the Harry Potter films.

All three episodes of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials are streaming on Netflix.
