Teyana Taylor hits back after fans accuse Julia Roberts of ‘body shaming’ her with Golden Globes comment

Teyana Taylor explained that people misinterpreted a conversation she had with Julia Roberts at the Golden Globes, and she’s responding to the criticism it received.

The singer and actress received her first Golden Globe nomination on Sunday and had the chance to meet one of her idols, Roberts, for the very first time.

A heartwarming moment between Roberts and Taylor quickly spread online after Roberts gave Taylor a hug and playfully told her she was very small, then joked that she needed to eat a sandwich.

Taylor Swift recently addressed the situation on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, explaining that she’d noticed people criticizing the person in question and wanted to defend them.

Taylor recounted that a friend playfully told her she looked thin and needed to eat, saying, ‘Girl, you need a sandwich!’ She thought it was a sweet thing to say.

The actress stated that Roberts’ remark didn’t bother her at all, and she actually really enjoyed their interaction on the red carpet.

“It was incredible,” she said. “I just remember her making a way for me, like Moses parting the Red Sea.”

She was suspended in the air, and it was unsettling how effortlessly she floated,” she said. “I immediately rushed to hold her, and it was such a sweet sight that it made me burst into tears.

Daily Mail has not received a response to its request for comment from reps for Roberts.

The criticism started when some viewers accused Roberts of making negative comments about Taylor’s body. Taylor ultimately won the award for Best Supporting Actress, surpassing other contenders including Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, Ariana Grande, and Amy Madigan.

A fan shared on Twitter that Teyana Taylor responded to Julia Roberts jokingly telling her to ‘eat a sandwich,’ adding that while they love Julia Roberts, the comment was inappropriate.

Another chimed in, ‘100%.’

But most fans were just as charmed by the sweet moment as Taylor herself.

‘I love how they are holding each other… so girly,’ one wrote.

Another added, ‘That is so sweet!’

When Taylor Swift accepted her Golden Globe award, she shared that she hadn’t planned a speech, as she didn’t expect to win. She then thanked director Paul Thomas Anderson, explaining that his work inspired the material that led to her victory.

She thanked Paul Anderson, also known as “Let ‘Em Cook,” for his inspiring vision, unwavering trust, and exceptional talent. She expressed that she was deeply grateful for everything he had done.

‘I love you, we love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.’

In the show One Battle After Another, Taylor plays the mother of a child whose father is the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

I’m so excited about Wes Anderson’s new film! And the cast is incredible – alongside the previously announced stars, they’ve added Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Wood Harris. It’s shaping up to be something really special!

As a mom myself, I totally get wanting to share special moments with your kids! Taylor shared that her daughters, Junie, who’s ten, and little Rue, five, were actually watching the show from upstairs – how sweet is that? It’s lovely she could enjoy the evening knowing they were part of it too.

She playfully told her family to put down their phones and pay attention, calling them her ‘grounding force’ – the people who keep her centered.

Taylor concluded her speech with a message for her fellow Black women and young Black girls watching, offering them encouragement and support.

Taylor emphasized that being kind isn’t a weakness, having strong values isn’t excessive, and everyone deserves to express their true selves without needing approval.

‘We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.’

Fifty-eight-year-old Roberts received a nomination for her work in After the Hunt, but Jessie Buckley won the award for her performance in Hamnet.

Julia Roberts spent the evening with her husband of 24 years, Daniel Moder, and their close friend George Clooney, along with his wife Amal. They all sat together at a table and enjoyed the event.
