The upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO won’t just have a fresh look – it will also have a new sound. Instead of reusing the original music, the show is getting a completely original score composed by Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer and his team at Bleeding Fingers. While John Williams created the beloved music for the first three films, including the famous “Hedwig’s Theme,” this new series is aiming for a unique and updated magical sound for the franchise.
The music from Harry Potter is a major reason the series remains so popular, reminding fans of the excitement of seeing the books come to life on screen. Hans Zimmer, known for composing music for over 500 films and other projects, is taking on the challenge of creating a new sound for the franchise. My colleagues, Kara Talve and Anže Rozman, and I understand the weight of this responsibility. Like the books and films, we believe magic exists all around us – you just have to seek it out. With this new score, we hope to capture that feeling for audiences while also paying tribute to the amazing music that came before it.
