Season 14 of The Masked Singer has faced criticism for featuring Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were previously convicted of tax evasion.
Wednesday night’s episode of the show revealed the couple behind the ‘Croissants’ costume, and viewers immediately expressed their disappointment with the casting choice.
Before they were unmasked, Todd, 56, and Julie, 52, gave a clue about who they were by performing “Jailhouse Rock” at the beginning of the show.
They also indicated that they were reality stars who had been ‘canceled’ and separated by fate.
Immediately after Todd and Julie were unmasked on The Masked Singer, fans rushed to the show’s Instagram page to express their anger and call the decision to let them compete ‘awful’ and ‘ill-advised’.
One commenter expressed their disapproval, stating they believe the individual should be in jail, not on ‘The Masked Singer,’ and announced they will not be watching the show, now or in the future.
One viewer wrote to the show’s producers, saying their decision was a mistake and seemed like a last-ditch effort. They added that the show is usually much better than this.
Someone else expressed similar disapproval, writing: ‘It’s awful that you’re giving them a platform, but I don’t expect any better from Fox News. Good work, though.’

‘Do you guys enjoy casting felons?’ a fourth asked.
One person sarcastically questioned the label of a “reality TV power couple,” suggesting they were actually criminals. Another commenter begged producers to avoid any more shocking or problematic reveals this season.
In 2022, Todd and Julie were found guilty of a $30 million fraud involving banks and taxes.
The individuals started serving their prison terms in 2023, but President Donald Trump granted them pardons in May 2025.
Their 28-year-old daughter, Savannah, worked incredibly hard to get her parents released from prison.
After receiving a pardon, Todd was questioned by reporters about whether he regretted his conviction, and he strongly denied feeling any remorse.
He stated he’d feel guilty if he were responsible, but believes the issues that plagued their situation will continue to come to light.
Todd and Julie have three children together: Chase, 29, Grayson, 19, and Savannah. Todd also has two older children, Kyle, 34, and Lindsie, 36, from a previous marriage to Teresa Terry.

Savannah was a contestant on season eleven of The Masked Singer, and her identity was revealed to be the Afghan Hound.
This isn’t the first time that Masked Singer has received criticism over its casting choices.
In 2022, the show was hit with backlash after Rudy Giuliani was unmasked as Jack in the Box.
Rudy Giuliani is a well-known and often divisive political figure, largely because of his strong support for Donald Trump and his repeated assertions that the 2020 election was fraudulent.
Before that, Sarah Palin, a Republican politician and former governor of Alaska, was revealed to be the Bear on the show in 2020.
