A recent moment in Taylor Sheridan’s popular show, Landman, has sparked excitement among conservatives, who are praising it as one of the few times Hollywood has seemingly criticized progressive viewpoints.
The video is gaining a lot of attention, partly because it features Michelle Randolph, who is dating actor Glen Powell.
In this episode, Randolph’s character, Ainsley Norris, has a disagreement with her college roommate about pronoun usage. She then shares her straightforward opinions with a counselor on campus.
In a video clip, Ainsley stated she doesn’t concern herself with people’s pronouns, explaining that using plural pronouns to refer to a single person doesn’t seem grammatically correct to her.
She strongly reiterated her position, explaining that she’s always struggled with understanding the complexities surrounding pronouns. She presented this as a simple issue of grammar, not a matter of personal beliefs.
Right-wing online communities quickly shared and celebrated the clip, calling it a respectful but effective critique of gender-neutral language.

A viewer shared that the show Landman on Paramount+ is gaining attention because of a scene where an actress gently explains the use of “they/them” pronouns to a character with more liberal views. The commenter wondered if this indicates a shift away from progressive ideologies in Hollywood.
The positive response online grew even stronger as more and more people watched and praised the scene, as well as its creator, Taylor Sheridan.
A viewer excitedly pointed out that the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, and stars like Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott give it a distinctly traditional, Western feel. They also mentioned a recent instance where the show seemed to playfully poke fun at the talk show, ‘The View’.
‘Now they’re trolling pronouns. LOVE IT!!’
Viewers praised the episode as ‘perfect’ and one of the year’s best. One fan said the show ‘Landman’ is already great, and this episode took it to another level.
People praised Taylor Sheridan, with one commenter saying he was playfully responding to his critics, and that they loved it.
Someone else brought up industry rivalry, pointing to the recent attempt by Netflix to buy Warner Bros. They suggested that because the deal failed and Netflix remained independent, a new conflict has emerged, framing it as a disagreement with Netflix’s content choices.
But not everyone was cheering.

One disappointed viewer asked bluntly, ‘Damnit. Do I have to stop watching this show?’
On Reddit, some accused the show of leaning too hard into caricature.
One user commented that the character ‘Paygin’ (Ainsley’s roommate) felt like an exaggerated and unfair stereotype, created simply to criticize liberal viewpoints. They added that while some people might have a few of those characteristics, the character seemed to embody them all to an extreme degree, which didn’t feel realistic, especially considering their background as an art school student.
Someone else agreed, describing the situation as intentionally designed to provoke anger. They added that the depiction of Ainsley’s roommate was simply absurd.
This backlash online happens shortly after Sheridan defended Landman against complaints that the show featured too much nudity, especially with actresses Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph.
Instead of making a public statement, the show’s creator addressed the criticism by having characters discuss it in a December episode of the Paramount+ series.
In one part of the movie, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) reacted with discomfort to what his ex-wife, Angela (Larter), was wearing. She was walking around the house in a short top that showed her yellow bra.
Tommy asked me to get dressed, which honestly felt a little weird. I playfully accused him of being bothered by seeing my body, but he quickly said it wasn’t about me at all. He insisted he was concerned about what other people might think, which just made the whole situation even more awkward!

Angela asked if T.L., played by Sam Elliott, had been bothered by the outfit. Tommy said he hadn’t, but then Ainsley from Randolph’s team walked in wearing something just as revealing.
That was the final straw. Tommy admitted defeat, saying, ‘I can’t go on—I love you both, and I can’t change that.’ He essentially gave up completely.
Last year, 28-year-old actress Randolph explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she spent a lot of time preparing to believably portray a teenager in the West Texas-based series.
I was so dedicated to getting this role right! I really threw myself into preparation, working with coaches for everything – my dialect, how I moved, and of course, the acting itself. I had almost a full year to get ready, and I spent it studying like crazy to become this character.
She explained that deeply understanding the character was a very valuable process. She put a lot of effort into making the character’s actions understandable and portraying a realistic, fully developed person, even though the character’s words didn’t always sound like those of a typical teenager. She emphasized that people with such complexities do exist.
Randolph, previously known for her role on ‘Sheridan’ in 1923, explained that she was focused on portraying Ainsley in a thoughtful and sensitive way.
I can only influence certain things, but as an actor, I have a lot of control too. Being around Ali, Billy, Jacob [Lofland], and filming in Texas were all really helpful in developing a complete and believable character for Ainsley.
‘She has this free essence about her and she’s wild, and I loved every second of it.’

I was so excited to see Randolph and Powell finally step out together as a couple! They made their debut at a Golden Globes afterparty on Sunday night, and it was a really sweet moment.
The actor and his girlfriend were seen leaving the glamorous party with his mother, Cyndy Powell.
Powell and Randolph have been dating for about three months, starting in October.
In December 2025, Us Weekly reported that the relationship was new and casual, with sources saying the pair were enjoying each other’s company but keeping things private.
After they started dating, Miles Teller, the actor from Top Gun: Maverick, and Keleigh Sperry were seen dancing together at The Broken Spoke, a popular honky-tonk bar in Austin.
Before his current relationship, Powell dated model Gigi Paris. He was also rumored to be romantically involved with his ‘Anyone But You’ co-star, Sydney Sweeney, but both actors confirmed they were just friends.
