A video game based on the Studio Ghibli film Porco Rosso is now available on PlayStation 5.
Lifetap Studios’ new game, The Brew Barons, is now available on PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store. The game offers exciting aerial adventures, letting you explore the skies, collect resources, and engage in combat. It’s inspired by the classic Studio Ghibli film Porco Rosso. You can get The Brew Barons for $21.99, and you can watch the official trailer below.
Studio Ghibli Porco Rosso-Inspired Video Game Release Comes to the PS5 With ‘The Brew Barons’
In The Brew Barons from Lifetap Studios, a peaceful world is being ruined by pirates who control all the brewing. Youāll need to travel the land, gather ingredients, make your own brews, and sell them to defeat the pirates and bring peace back to the realm.
Released in 2024 on Steam, The Brew Barons lets you lead a team of pilots on exciting aerial adventures. Youāll be able to improve your planes as you play, but thatās not all! The game centers around brewing unique beers and ciders using ingredients you gather while flying. You can then sell these drinks at your own bar and build it into a renowned brewhouse.
In The Brew Barons, youāll spend time honing your skills, but the core gameplay involves flying around the world to gather ingredients and complete deliveries. Be warned: this will attract rivals who are powerful and well-equipped! Fortunately, you can upgrade and customize your seaplanes to handle any challenge.
Since launching on Steam in 2024, The Brew Barons has been well-received by both players and critics. Currently, 78% of the 786 Steam reviews are positive, with 56% of the 16 most recent reviews (from the last 30 days) also being positive.
The world and artistic style of The Brew Barons draw heavily from the 1992 Studio Ghibli film Porco Rosso. That film, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, was itself based on his 1989 manga Hikotei Jidai. It tells the story of an Italian fighter pilot from World War I who is cursed to live as a pig.
When Porco Rosso was first released, it did very well financially, earning about $44.6 million in theaters. However, it didn’t receive much critical praise at the time, and some still feel that way today. Currently, the film has a 96% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning most critics liked it. Audiences also seem to enjoy it, giving it an 87% score based on over 5,000 reviews.
