The latest episode of Landman saw a significant dip in viewership, nearly reaching a series low. This happened right after Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, was unexpectedly fired from his position as president of M-Tex Oil. During a business trip, Demi Moore’s character, Cami Miller, criticized Tommy for playing it too safe, and then delivered the shocking news: “You’re fired.”
The ninth episode of Landman season 2, called “Plans, Tears and Sirens,” received some of the lowest ratings of the season, particularly after showing Tommy being fired. Currently, it has a score of 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb, almost matching the season’s previous low of 6.6 for episode 7, “Forever is an Instant.”
Viewers who disliked the episode found it disappointing, citing unrealistic storylines and a weak script. Some felt creator Taylor Sheridan didn’t deliver his best work with Landman.
Only two episodes of Landman season 2, “Forever is an Instant” and “Plans, Tears and Sirens,” have received an IMDb rating below 7. Most episodes typically score between 7.5 and 8.2 out of 10.
| Landman Season 2 | IMDb Scores |
|---|---|
| Episode 1 | 7.5/10 |
| Episode 2 | 7.7/10 |
| Episode 3 | 8/10 |
| Episode 4 | 8.2/10 |
| Episode 5 | 7.9/10 |
| Episode 6 | 7.5/10 |
| Episode 7 | 6.6/10 |
| Episode 8 | 7.6/10 |
| Episode 9 | 6.7/10 |
In contrast, every episode of Landman season 1 received a score of 7.5 or higher, with episode 6, “Beware the Second Beating,” earning the highest rating at 8.6.
Although episode 9 of Landman season 2 earned praise from many viewers—some even calling it exceptional for its daring narrative—it seems overall that audiences aren’t as engaged with the new season as they were with the first.
Only one episode remains in season 2, and the finale will air on January 18th. The most recent episode shocked viewers with Tommy’s unexpected firing, which could significantly impact both the finale and the future of the series.

It might appear Thornton is exiting the series now that his character no longer heads M-Tex Oil. However, Paramount+ has renewed the show for a third season, and Thornton has expressed his desire to continue with the series for the foreseeable future.
Okay, buckle up, because things are really heating up on Landman. Tommy’s move in the latest episode – season 2, episode 9 – has me convinced we’re heading for a massive clash between him and Cami. Seriously, I don’t think we’ve seen this level of potential conflict between these two before. The big question now is how Tommy will react to getting the boot, and let me tell you, I don’t see him taking it quietly. Expect a seriously intense showdown where either Cami comes out on top, or she might just find herself on the way out!
The show Landman still has a lot of mysteries, and the second-to-last episode added even more. The final episode of this season will likely solve a few of those questions, but it will probably also create new ones as we look ahead to season three.
The Landman season 2 finale will be released Sunday, January 18, on Paramount+.
