Neeraj Pandey’s Netflix series, Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, takes viewers inside the bustling Mumbai Airport customs department. The show, set within the airport’s massive 2,000-acre grounds which handle millions of travelers each day, focuses on the conflict between customs officials and a sophisticated criminal organization. It reveals the intricate work—and sometimes covert tactics—required to enforce the law when smuggling is rampant.
The series follows Superintendent Arjun Meena (Emraan Hashmi) and his team of officers who were previously suspended. They’re assigned to stop Bada Choudhary (Sharad Kelkar) and his smuggling ring. Overseeing the operation is Prakash Kumar (Anurag Sinha), a representative from the Finance Minister, making sure only honest officers are involved in taking down this airport-based criminal network.
Team formation and initial operations
Once Kumar took charge, he immediately removed the corrupt officials connected to the criminal group. He then brought back three dedicated officers who had previously been suspended: Meena, Ravi Gujjar (also known as Nandish Sandhu), and Mitali Sharma (played by Amruta Khanvilkar). Meena is the team’s planner, Ravi provides strong and ethical enforcement, and Mitali excels at tracing valuable items and quickly inspecting goods at customs.
The team starts by carefully tracking small, illegal shipments, observing passengers, luggage, and communications to learn how the smugglers operate and who is involved. These operations demand careful planning and teamwork, because there’s a risk that dishonest officials or other hidden threats at the airport could sabotage their work. Meena leads the team, ensuring everything stays on schedule and follows the plan.
Ravi Gujjar’s role and the informant

Ravi, a dedicated and brave officer working with Prakash Kumar, depends on Priya, a secret informant who has infiltrated the group of Anna Seth, an associate of Choudhary. Priya provides vital information about shipments, the whereabouts of important people like Rahul, and the planning overseen by Suresh, Seth’s top aide. This intelligence allows Ravi and his team to predict the smugglers’ moves and carefully plan operations without revealing their identities.
Meena starts to suspect something isn’t right, noticing strange behavior from people on his team and within the smuggling operation. The situation becomes even more tense when two people die unexpectedly—one during a search by customs officials and another while being held in custody.
Bada Choudhary’s pressure and Prakash Kumar’s corruption

As the team makes progress, Choudhary tries to take back control by both bribing Kumar and threatening the officers and their families. The danger becomes tragically real when Ravi is killed on Choudhary’s orders, highlighting how vulnerable the team is and forcing Meena to take swift action.
It now becomes clear that Kumar, who everyone believed was honest, had secretly made a deal with Choudhary in Bangkok. He promised Choudhary a share of the profits from illegal smuggling in exchange for help with certain shipments. Everything Kumar had done before – moving officials, arranging security, and directing operations – was actually a plan to earn Choudhary’s trust and control how things unfolded to benefit them both.
The gold shipment
In the last few episodes, Choudhary plans to smuggle two tons of gold by hiding it inside 40 coffins, hoping it will go unnoticed by customs officials. Suresh informs Superintendent Srikant Saxena, who is working with Ravi, and Ravi passes this information on to Meena. Meanwhile, Priya is sent to Al Dera to keep an eye on Choudhary and share his location with the police.
When the team opened the coffins, they were shocked to find them empty. Meena quickly understood that the original shipment had been tampered with: Kumar had hidden the gold inside diplomatic furniture. This discovery sparked a frantic chase through the airport to stop the shipment and revealed a shocking betrayal from within the organization.
The final confrontation

Meena found Kumar at Warehouse 2 and learned where he’d hidden the gold inside the furniture. At the same time, police raided Choudhary’s home in Al Dera thanks to information from Priya. They recovered two tons of gold and arrested the head of the criminal operation.
The series ends by revealing Kumar’s involvement in corruption and emphasizes how important teamwork, careful planning, and good strategy are for successful customs work. Every stage of the operation, from gathering intelligence to the final arrest, showed that detailed preparation, bravery, and trust between officers were key to shutting down a complex criminal operation at a major international airport.
