Must-watch Netflix serial killer whodunnit with “brilliant but tormented” detective gets big update

Netflix’s new detective drama, based on the books by Jo Nesbø, has announced some exciting news. Tobias Santelmann, known for his role in Point Break, will star as the iconic detective Harry Hole.

The series has officially confirmed that Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will be composing the music. The pair previously collaborated on the scores for films like The Proposition and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

We really enjoyed adapting this story. Harry Hole’s gritty and morally ambiguous world is vividly portrayed in all its dark intensity, and it was a privilege to collaborate with the acclaimed author Jo Nesbø, said Cave.

Jo Nesbø explained that Nick Cave and Warren Ellis excel at creating atmosphere and suspense, making their music a perfect fit for the dark and complex world of his detective, Harry Hole, as he navigates the streets of Oslo.

I’ve always listened to their music while I write, so having them create the score for the Harry Hole series feels incredibly fitting, and a little bit unbelievable.

Detective Hole is a complex drama focusing on two police officers who are technically colleagues, but work on very different sides of the law.

The story follows Harry as he clashes with his old enemy, the crooked detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a gifted investigator haunted by his personal struggles.

Harry races against time to stop a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice, all while facing difficult moral choices within the criminal justice system.

The series features Joel Kinnaman, known for The Suicide Squad, as Waaler, and Pia Tjelta from Made in Oslo as Rakel Fauke, alongside Santelmann. The cast also includes Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Kåre Conradi, Simon J. Berger, Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, and Kristoffer Joner.

Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole will land on Netflix on 26 March 2026.
