I’ve been checking out a bunch of design stuff and videos from a Batman game that sadly never saw the light of day. It was clearly aiming for that dark and realistic vibe from Christopher Nolan’s movies, and it’s really cool to see what they had planned. It’s a shame it got canceled, but it’s awesome that this stuff is now online for fans like me to check out!
Batman has been featured in many great video games, with the most popular being the trilogy created by Rocksteady Studios. Because Warner Bros. owns the rights to Batman, the character has shown up in games made by different developers, both in his own standalone titles and in team-up games like the recently cancelled MultiVersus.
A Canceled Batman Game Was Finally Revealed Online
A Batman game based on Christian Bale’s portrayal in The Dark Knight was in development but ultimately canceled. Some short clips of the game, known internally as “Project Apollo,” appeared online in 2024, offering a small preview of what could have been.
In 2026, someone using the name MrTalida began sharing a lot of new content online. They found the data on old hard drives and have posted videos on BlueSky showcasing various aspects of the game, including cutscenes, how characters move, tests of facial expressions, and even a design for where the Batmobile would appear.
I’ve recovered a cache of documents and videos from the pre-production phase of Project Apollo, a canceled Batman game Monolith worked on for Warner Bros. The materials, from 4/2009 to 1/2010, were in deleted sectors of a HDD used at a game company. archive.org/details/proj… 1/9š§µā
Even though the Batman game set in the Nolanverse was cancelled early on, some gameplay footage was released. This footage revealed a dynamic audio system that would have responded to what players did in the game, and showed the iconic Tumbler Batmobile driving through Gotham City.
What Was Project Apollo About?
Monolith Productions, the studio behind games like Middle-earth: Shadow of War, started developing a game called Project Apollo while it was still part of Warner Bros. However, the project was cancelled in the early 2010s, and the studio shifted its focus to Gotham City Imposters instead.
Leaked documents reveal the game was planned to take place in the world of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. The story would begin with Batman being wounded by Bane, after which Bane seizes control of Gotham City. Players would then be tasked with liberating the city from various criminal gangs.
Project Apollo was set to be a really exciting addition to the Batman universe, introducing characters like Huntress, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and Killer Croc. Itās unfortunate the game was cancelled, because it would have offered a fresh perspective not seen in other Batman games.
The game was canceled because Christopher Nolan wasn’t happy with the idea. Warner Bros. then decided to concentrate on the Arkham games instead, but even the small amount of information about this canceled game is exciting for Batman fans.
