The Pitt: Mateo Will Return Later In Season 2

A character who was absent in season one of The Pitt will reappear in the show’s second season. The medical drama, which has won five Emmy Awards, recently returned to HBO Max. The new season follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and his colleagues as they manage a busy shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center over the July 4th holiday.

Most of the cast from The Pitt will return for season 2, including Wyle, who is also an executive producer. However, Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins, won’t be back – her character’s departure will be addressed in the new season. Fans will also have to wait to see more of Mateo Diaz (played by Jalen Thomas Brooks), as he’ll be appearing later in the season.

Matt Webb Mitovich, writing in his newsletter Matt’s Inside Line, reported on what’s happening with the character Mateo. The emergency room nurse, who could become a love interest for Dr. Victoria Javadi (played by Shabana Azeez), isn’t in the first episode of The Pitt‘s second season. However, according to the show’s creator and showrunner, R. Scott Gemmill, Mateo will be back – he’s simply “working the night shift” at the moment.

Even with a big cast of doctors, patients, and their families, Mateo stands out in the first 15 episodes. Viewers remember him mostly because of Javadi’s feelings for him, which come back in the season one finale of The Pitt. He also has some difficult encounters with the unhappy Drug Driscoll (Drew Powell), who later becomes violent.

The popular HBO Max show may be leading to a reconnection between Javadi and Diaz near the end of the second season. The storyline suggests Diaz will arrive for his shift as Javadi is leaving for the day. We also learned in the first episode that Javadi doesn’t look forward to her birthday, but that might change if Diaz becomes involved.

The show’s continued success will probably lead to more discussion about creating a spinoff centered around the night shift. The idea of a spinoff has been around since the original show became popular, but those involved – the actors, crew, and studio heads – have consistently said their priority is the main series.

New episodes of The Pitt season 2 are released every week, and the season will conclude in April. That means fans will have to wait to find out what happens with Mateo and if he and Javadi will connect.

The Pitt season 2 streams new episodes Thursdays at 9 PM on HBO Max
