“Pulse-pumping” returning action thriller branded “such a TV treat” gets exciting update after delay

I’m so excited – we’re finally getting news about season two of Mr & Mrs Smith! It’s been almost two years since the first season dropped, and I loved it! For those who don’t know, the show is based on the movie from 2005 and stars Donald Glover and May Erskine as the Smiths. Glover was even a co-creator, which is awesome!

Although Donald Glover and Ayo Edebiri aren’t likely to return as on-screen characters in season 2, Glover is still working on the show behind the scenes. Mark Eydelshteyn (known for Anora) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) have already been announced as the new lead pair.

Anna Ouyang Moench, known for her work on Severance, is now the showrunner. She’s taking over from Francesca Sloane, who led the show during its first season.

The delay comes as reports surface about potential problems with Sloane’s agreement with Amazon MGM, and some scripts for the second season were already completed before production was halted. Filming is still planned to start in the next few months, but depends on whether stars Eydelshteyn and Thatcher are available.

I heard that Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal were all considered for guest spots when the show had a different showrunner. It’s not really known if they’re still being talked about now, though – things seem to have changed!

Peter Friedlander, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised Anna as a remarkably talented storyteller who skillfully combines compelling characters, witty humor, and genuine emotion, according to Deadline.

Her impressive work on shows like Beef and Severance proves her talent, and we’re excited she’s leading Season 2 of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. She’ll expand on the show’s already fascinating world and take it in some bold new directions for viewers around the world on Prime Video.

The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith was a big hit with critics. It earned a 90% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 123 reviews, and Butler’s Cinema Scene highlighted its blend of dark comedy and exciting action.

Cultured Vultures praised the show, saying eight episodes weren’t nearly enough. They especially enjoyed the chemistry between Donald Glover and Maya Erskine and hope for more episodes of them together, calling Mr. and Mrs. Smith a delightful watch.

Mr & Mrs Smith season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video.

The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find ‘Dolly at 80’ in shops or order it online for only £8.99.
