Film and TV company attached to 50 Cent invests $124 million in new Louisiana production studios

After the popular Netflix documentary “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who executive produced it, is planning to put $124 million into a new film and television production facility in Shreveport, Louisiana.

50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television is planning to build three facilities in a city in northern Louisiana. The company announced on Monday that this new production hub is projected to create over 6,000 jobs and contribute almost $19 billion to Louisiana’s economy, according to a recent independent study.

The project will revamp old buildings previously used by Stageworks and Millennium Studios, and also add a unique, dome-shaped entertainment space and a new park. Louisiana has committed $50 million in funding, which will be provided as the project meets specific goals, to help with infrastructure improvements at these locations.

Jackson announced that investments in downtown Shreveport and improvements to existing facilities will create jobs, boost local morale, and draw new projects to the area, making it an attractive place for the entertainment industry to grow. His vision is to establish Northwest Louisiana as a leading national hub for film, music, and live events, summarizing this effort with the slogan, “All Roads Lead to Shreveport.”

Paramount has committed to a ten-year lease for a new production facility being built in New Jersey. This move will make the company eligible for state tax benefits.

About two years ago, Jackson shared plans for his studios and recently signed a long-term lease with the city. The New York rapper has been collaborating with state and local leaders to boost the economy and tourism by attracting more entertainment businesses to the region.

50 Cent, the artist behind “In da Club,” started G-Unit Film & Television in 2005. The company creates shows for popular streaming services and networks including ABC, BET+, Netflix, and Hulu. They’re known for the Starz series “Power,” which 50 Cent produced, directed, and even acted in, as well as several spin-off shows. More recently, G-Unit has also moved into audio production, including podcasts.

Popular TV shows like ‘Baywatch’ and ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ are moving production to California after previously filming elsewhere.

G-Unit recently achieved a major success with its four-part documentary series, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning.” The series investigates allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs and his Bad Boy Entertainment company. Meanwhile, the rapper was convicted of two charges related to transporting individuals for prostitution and is currently in federal prison. The documentary quickly rose to the top spot on Netflix in over 50 countries and garnered 40 million views globally within its first two weeks.

The studio is currently making a new boxing drama series called “Fightland” for Starz. They are also developing a show for Hulu, tentatively titled “Hip Hop Cop,” based on the nonfiction book “The Gangs of Zion” by Ron Stallworth, who wrote “Black Klansman.”
