Meet the Cheeky boys! The men who captured the hearts of the Cheeky Girls – who say Jedward can’t compete

The Cheeky Girls became famous in the early 2000s with their playful image and catchy pop songs. Now, after years in the spotlight, they’ve settled down with partners and are leading more low-key lives.

Gabriela was once engaged to former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik, whom she described as a kind person before she met her current partner, Adam Zubek, who works in car sales. They’ve been together for seven years.

She’s excited to marry her partner and jokingly told Adam, ‘Don’t take too long to propose, I want to wear that dress!’ as she shared with Closer magazine.

Monica and Shaun Taylor got married in 2016. They first met at a Starbucks in Central London and later had their wedding in North Yorkshire.

Her mother, Magrit, described him as a very generous and supportive person. He consistently attends her performances and has showered her with gifts, even buying her a car. She also mentioned the engagement ring features a particularly large diamond.

The 43-year-old twin sisters jokingly revealed to The Sun that they maintain their fit physiques with ‘lots of sex’.

Because the sisters have chosen partners who prefer to stay out of the public eye, their relationships have remained quite private.

The singers, best known for their popular song “The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)”, also discussed X Factor twins Jedward in an interview with Closer magazine.

Monica said: ‘They arrived on the scene more like a poor copy cat after us to be honest.’

Gabriela also mentioned that Jedward gave it their all, but perhaps pushed themselves too far. She added with a smile, ‘No one can quite fill our shoes.’

The twins shared that they now have typical jobs, both working in car sales, but they don’t currently work at the same place.

I’ve been following Gabriela and Monica’s careers for a while now, and it’s great to see them both doing so well! Gabriela recently started at the Hyundai dealership in York, and her twin sister, Monica – who’s just ten minutes younger – has been a valued member of the team at the Hyundai dealership in Boston, Lincolnshire for years. They’re both incredibly dedicated to their work.

Gabriela said: ‘We are in competition’ with Monica adding: ‘Who can sell the most cars?’

Monica confidently stated she’s the stronger salesperson, explaining that she has more experience in the car industry than her sister. While acknowledging her sister is older, Monica playfully pointed out that her sister has always learned from her.

Back in October 2021, the sisters shared with TopMob how much they enjoy their work, and expressed their dream of eventually owning their own dealership.

Monica believes the public often assumes that people who are, or have been, famous – like pop stars – aren’t allowed to pursue different careers.

I’ve always believed there’s dignity in work, and it’s regrettable to be idle. We’ve decided on a different direction for our careers, and we’re incredibly proud of that choice.

Gabi explained that she loves cars, and enjoys both the excitement of selling them and the satisfaction of making customers happy.

The pair found fame overnight when they auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002.

After two decades of fame, they returned in 2022 with a new single.

The band announced they’re back with a new song called “Let’s Have Fun” on Instagram.

The Romanian pop duo’s latest song was penned by their mother, Margit – the same woman who wrote their first hit and previously managed their careers, until they became known on the ITV talent show.

Staying true to their style, the song’s catchy chorus repeats: ‘We just want to have fun!’ with a playful tone.

It’s more enjoyable to share experiences with someone else. Having a partner simply doubles the fun!

I remember when The Cheeky Girls first came out – a lot of people were quick to judge them! But honestly, they proved everyone wrong. I was a huge fan and followed their success closely – they had four songs reach the top 10 between 2002 and 2004, which is amazing! And I’ll never forget hearing they played to crowds of 100,000 people at their peak – it was incredible to witness their rise.

The song ‘The Cheeky Song,’ featuring the lyric ‘Don’t be shy, touch my bum, this is life,’ achieved global success, selling over 1.2 million copies worldwide.
