Golden Globes producers reveal how CBS handled Nikki Glaser’s ‘see BS’ joke

Nikki Glaser made a daring joke during the 83rd annual Golden Globes Awards on Sunday.

The stand-up comedienne took on CBS, the same network that aired the show.

The 41-year-old woman, who is blonde, announced, ‘And the award for the most editing goes to CBS News! They’ve become America’s source for questionable news – or, as some are saying, ‘See B.S. news!”

CBS faced criticism for removing a story about immigration shortly before it was scheduled to air, reportedly because it presented the current administration unfavorably.

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, the producers of the Golden Globes, recently told Variety how the joke aired on CBS.

Kirshner explained that he was seated beside a CBS executive during the rehearsal. Glenn had apparently been hearing the joke at various clubs all week, but they hadn’t encountered it until that day. As the joke was told, Kirshner noticed the executive quickly text a few people, and she gave a thumbs-up, saying everything was alright.

Weiss explained that the monologue works so well because it playfully critiques everything in the industry, even including those making it. He added that the process has simply been enjoyable.

Honestly, when I heard Kirshner say that, it just clicked. It’s like, the moment someone starts making fun of themselves and their own procedures, you instantly know they’re not a villain! It totally sets the stage – they’re not out to intentionally hurt anyone, you know? It’s a brilliant way to disarm everyone right from the start, and I’ve been saying it all along!

Meanwhile, Golden Globes bosses have said they hope Glaser will return as host in 2027.

Weiss thinks she has ‘truly found her place’ with the annual awards ceremony.

He recently told Variety that everyone involved has been concentrating on the current year and hasn’t discussed anything beyond it. However, personally, he’s optimistic about the future.

Glenn praised the comic, calling her ‘a perfect host’ for the event and highlighting her strong work ethic and ability to handle anything.

He praised Nikki, saying she’s a remarkably talented person who has really thrived with them. He believes she’s an ideal host for their show.

Honestly, she’s just incredible. I’ve never met anyone in this business who works as hard as she does. You can just tell she genuinely loves what she does, and it shows in everything she does. It’s amazing!

She rehearsed her performance extensively, and everything evolved from the initial practice sessions to the actual show. Things kept changing right up until we started broadcasting.

I really admire her – she’s incredibly funny, but also a dedicated worker and a genuinely good fit for this job.

Before the show aired, Glaser told People she would not be afraid to make funny of stars.

‘Everyone is fair game. I really feel that way,’ she said.

‘I was even thinking, like, “Oh, I’ll leave plus ones alone, they don’t deserve it. They’re not there being honored,” but I feel like (that’s fair).’

She explained that some people are more shielded from criticism than others, and while others might get offended on their behalf, she doesn’t concern herself with that.

If my joke makes someone laugh, that’s enough of a reason for me to tell it.
