Elizabeth Olsen’s “sensational” rom-com that’s a “crowd-pleasing winner” lands new UK streaming home

Elizabeth Olsen’s upcoming romantic comedy, Eternity, is heading to a streaming service. The film, directed by David Freyne, stars Olsen as Joan, a woman navigating the afterlife. She’s faced with a difficult choice: spend eternity with her current husband, Larry (Miles Teller), or reunite with her first love, Luke (Callum Turner), who passed away years ago.

The film also features John Early as Ryan, who helps Joan navigate the afterlife, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Anna, who assists Larry after he passes, and Olga Merediz as their neighbor, Karen.

After receiving good reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, the film Eternity will be available to stream on Apple TV starting February 13th.

The movie, co-written by Freyne and Pat Cunnane, has received positive reviews, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 185 reviews.

Critics are calling this romantic comedy a fresh and delightful take on the classic love triangle. Publications like Mashable praise it as smart, sensational, and swoon-worthy, while The Daily Beast describes it as snappy, sweet, and genuinely moving – a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Although many enjoyed the film’s comedic elements, several critics pointed out a lack of connection between Olsen and her two co-stars, describing their characters as dull and unengaging.

Okay, so the story just didn’t really grab me, and a big part of that was the relationships. There was zero spark between the actress playing the main character and either of her husbands. Honestly, both guys were just… boring. That’s what a review in The Observer said, and I totally agree!

According to The Times, the movie Eternity could have been successful if its three main actors had shown more energy and connection with each other.

A review in The Boston Globe also noted that Joan doesn’t have much control over her own destiny, and the romantic connections feel weak because the two couples lack believable chemistry.

The review criticizes Joan’s character as lacking true control, noting she appears to be manipulated by two male figures. It also points out a lack of believable connection between the actress playing Joan and her two co-stars, which diminishes any sense of tension or excitement.

Eternity becomes available to stream on Apple TV from 13 February.
