Although this past Sunday was all glamour, celebration, and cheering at the Golden Globes, there is one Hollywood legend who wasn’t very happy with the ceremony. Hans Zimmer, the composer of productions like Inception, Gladiator and the Dune films, attended the Golden Globes, as he was nominated for his music in F1: The Movie. Nevertheless, the Best Original Score award was one of the few that didn’t get handed out during the official ceremony. It was during the commercial break – a decision that Zimmer says was “ignorant.”
Although Hans Zimmer didn’t win Best Original Score at the 2025 Golden Globes, he publicly questioned the decision to announce the winner during a low-viewership slot. The Globes chose to prioritize categories like Best Podcast instead of honoring the film score, leaving viewers to decide what’s more essential to enjoying a movie.
What Did Hans Zimmer Say About the 2026 Golden Globes Ceremony?
Ludwig Göransson won a Golden Globe for his score in the horror film Sinners, and this could foreshadow another Academy Award win. He previously won Oscars for Black Panther and Oppenheimer. Interestingly, all the composers nominated knew beforehand that the category wouldn’t be announced on TV – the Golden Globes decided to remove the award presentation from the live broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
According to Deadline, Hans Zimmer explained his decision right before the awards show started. On the red carpet, the Oscar winner publicly criticized the event’s organizers, stating:
“It feels a little bit ignorant. We are the psychological underbelly of the whole thing.
I’m surrounded by people who truly get filmmaking. It’s tough because when I return home after a long shoot, my kids sometimes feel like they don’t even know me. By the time we get to the music, the director has been through a lot – the entire process is a battle. Our main job as composers is to help them reconnect with the original passion that drove them to make the film.
Nikki Glaser, the host of the ceremony, made a joke about Hans Zimmer during her opening remarks and seemed to find it funny, but Zimmer himself was disappointed with how the event unfolded. When asked what he’d say to the person responsible for the controversial choice, Zimmer jokingly stated he wouldn’t even bother talking to them, implying any chance of a friendship was off the table.
