The Night Manager’s Tom Hiddleston reacts to huge twist – and hints at what will happen next

The Night Manager season 2 spoilers follow.

Three episodes into its second season, The Night Manager has delivered a major plot twist. Following his success in exposing arms dealer Richard Roper, Jonathan Pine—a former soldier now working as a hotel manager—has gone undercover in Colombia, aiming to infiltrate the organization of a new enemy, Teddy dos Santos.

Even though the season 2 premiere showed Roper being executed and Pine confirmed his death, the third episode ended with a shocking twist: Roper is still alive!

What to Read Next

I caught The One Show last night, and Tom Hiddleston was on talking about all the crazy stuff that happened! He said the tension between Pine and Roper is really what the whole show is built around, and hinted at what we can expect next. It’s so good to hear him talk about it!

According to the author, John le Carré, Hugh Laurie’s character, Richard Roper, was intended to be a truly villainous figure – the worst person imaginable, he explained.

Despite having every advantage – wealth, status, and the benefits of a free society – he acts in a manipulative way. However, the actor portraying him is incredibly likable and charismatic.

The exciting part is that viewers really love Hugh Laurie, and they especially love his character, Richard Roper. Now that he’s back, the story is building towards a confrontation between these two characters, which is what makes it so compelling.

The actor explained that the two characters have a complex relationship, constantly reflecting, attracting, challenging, and playfully provoking one another. They each understand who they are by seeing what the other is not.

Hugh and I often discussed the story of St. George and the dragon. It’s interesting to think that St. George wouldn’t be known as St. George without the dragon – they really define each other’s existence.

Here at Digital Spy, we’ve been loving season 2 so far. This recent twist promises a new direction for the final three episodes, and we can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.

New episodes of The Night Manager season 2 are shown on BBC One and iPlayer every Sunday evening. You can watch The One Show on weekdays at 7pm.

The latest issue of Living Legends is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can purchase ‘Dolly at 80’ at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
