Abbie Chatfield recently caused a lot of online discussion after sharing a video where she criticized what she believes is strong self-directed prejudice against women displayed by some stay-at-home mothers.
On Monday, the 30-year-old media personality posted a passionate video on TikTok addressing the criticism she frequently gets from other women. She was responding to the debate over whether stay-at-home mothers should be formally acknowledged for the work they do.
She explained that as soon as she expresses support – offering them pay, recognition, help, or even superannuation – it feels like she’s actually saying the opposite.
As a lifestyle expert, I often hear people say I don’t value motherhood enough, which honestly couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m constantly working to show how much I cherish it, and it’s frustrating when people misinterpret my intentions.
She explained that it felt like she was simply echoing their own beliefs – that they viewed their jobs not as deserving of fair compensation, but as an unavoidable part of life and their predetermined role.
She explained that she strongly supports them and was surprised by the amount of anger she’s received.

Sometimes the women get upset with me when I tell them that everyone here deserves fair pay and recognition, because I know this job is truly challenging.
She recalled one incident where a critic took their anger to an extreme.
She recounted a bizarre incident where someone filmed her getting upset and concluded the video with a recording of a fart into the phone.
According to Abbie, the woman accused her of misunderstanding stay-at-home motherhood.
She told me I didn’t understand what it was like to be a stay-at-home mother, and I responded that I did understand – I was actually saying it is hard, and that I agreed with her.
Abbie encouraged stay-at-home mothers to recognize that their work at home is valuable and important, just like any other job.
Okay, seriously, this woman just gets it! She said something that totally resonated with me – if you’re a stay-at-home mom, you HAVE to stop letting anyone make you feel like what you do isn’t real work. It’s like, society tells us it’s not ‘enough,’ but it IS! She basically told us to value ourselves for everything we are doing, and honestly, it was like a lightbulb moment. It’s so important to recognize that what we do as moms is valuable, and I’m totally on board with that!
She explained that stay-at-home mothers are vital to family life, pointing out that their unpaid work at home covers many jobs a working husband would otherwise need to pay for, like childcare, cooking, cleaning, and even providing emotional support.

She also pointed out the financial challenges that come with leaving a job to focus on raising children at home.
Abbie ended her speech by encouraging women to think about how they see their own value. She simply asked them to recognize that they deserve to be valued.
The video was shared with a harsh caption criticizing stay-at-home mothers. It claimed they often undervalue themselves and become upset when encouraged to recognize their worth, urging them to overcome self-deprecating beliefs and acknowledge their value.
I was really struck by her post, and it definitely got people talking! The comments section exploded with discussion, and a lot of people actually agreed with her point – that mothers who stay home to raise their kids should be financially compensated for their work. It was amazing to see so much support!
One person commented that women who don’t get paid for housework will only understand the value of their labor later in life, perhaps after a divorce and finding themselves financially vulnerable.
Someone else pointed out that they’ve been so focused on defending themselves for a while now that it’s become their default way of thinking.

Some people disagreed with Abbie, believing that parenting shouldn’t be considered a job with a salary.
Parenting is incredibly challenging, but also the most meaningful job someone can have. One person pointed out that calling it simply ‘work’ doesn’t quite capture how special and important it really is.
Okay, so I was reading all these discussions, and apparently, judges do consider everything a spouse does around the house – all the cleaning, cooking, childcare, everything – when they decide how to split things up in a divorce! It’s like, all that unpaid labor finally counts for something, which is HUGE!
Some people criticized Chatfield’s way of speaking, saying it sounded arrogant or like she was unfairly targeting someone weaker than herself.
