Tom Hiddleston says he would ‘absolutely’ be up for starring in Strictly Come Dancing after hinting at an appearance on Celebrity Traitors

Tom Hiddleston has said he’d definitely consider appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, and also hinted he might be on the next season of The Celebrity Traitors.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I was thrilled to see Hugh Laurie back on my screen! He reprised his role as the captivating Jonathan Pine – you might remember him as the hotelier who becomes a spy – in the second series which premiered earlier this month. It’s fantastic to see such a talented actor return to a character we all love.

While promoting his popular BBC show, he was reportedly asked by The Sun if he’d be interested in appearing on Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors.

Tom said: ‘Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I’m a massive, massive fan of both.’

The celebrity edition of The Traitors was a huge hit for the BBC, averaging 13 million viewers per episode when it premiered in October and becoming one of their most successful programs of the year.

Tom has publicly said he’s excited about potentially being on The Traitors, and he’s admitted that filming at Ardross Castle for the next season sounds very appealing.

Discussing The Traitors on BBC Radio 2, he said: ‘I mean the celebrity one would be amazing.

I absolutely love this show! The format is incredibly clever and it’s totally addictive. Honestly, it might be the best television I’ve ever watched.

The new show started on New Year’s Day, and most of the participants seem determined to be the ‘traitor.’ However, Tom thinks it would be more compelling to remain loyal.

He said: ‘I’d like to be a Faithful because then you can play detective, right?

You feel good about your choices and intentions, and you’re simply observing others, trying to understand them.

Being a Traitor is essentially about acting. It’s a game where you constantly have to mislead others, hide your true intentions, and basically tell lies.

That’s an interesting idea, though I’m not sure. I think exploring faith would be more about satisfying a personal curiosity than anything else.

The fourth season of The Traitors arrived quickly after the success of the first celebrity version, which comedian Alan Carr won.

Having Tom join Strictly would be a major win for the show, which has faced a lot of challenges lately.

Claudia Winkleman, age 53, and Tess Daly, 56, who have co-hosted the show since 2014, revealed in October that they are leaving the dance competition.

I was absolutely thrilled to watch Karen Carney and Carlos Gu win the live final! They were amazing, and I was so happy they beat George Clarke and Amber Davies to take home the championship. It was a fantastic competition, and they truly deserved the win!

Okay, so the show looked amazing this year, seriously, the costumes and sets were incredible. But honestly? It just didn’t translate to people watching. I was glued to the screen every week, of course, but even I could see the finale numbers were down… again! It’s the fourth year in a row now, which is just… heartbreaking. I don’t understand what’s happening, it’s my absolute favorite and it feels like fewer and fewer people are tuning in! It’s devastating.

The show reached its highest viewership last year with 9.3 million viewers, but this year’s numbers were lower, peaking at 8.4 million.

In 2023, it was 9.7million, indicating a consistent decline.

The show averaged 8.6 million viewers last year, but viewership dropped to 7.6 million this year. In 2023, the average audience was 8.8 million.

According to a BBC representative, the Strictly Come Dancing final on Saturday was the most-watched program in the UK by a significant margin. A peak of 8.4 million viewers tuned in to see Karen and Carlos win, which was almost eight million more viewers than any other show at that time.

‘Many more will stream via BBC iPlayer, where Strictly has grown its audience this year.’
