Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s journey from Boston buddies to Hollywood stars is a classic tale. Now, you can watch them reunite on screen in the new Netflix drama, The Rip. Interestingly, despite their long friendship and frequent on-screen collaborations, they don’t seem to share a workout routine!
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck recently sat down for a Netflix video to discuss their friendship, careers, and their new movie. They were asked about their fitness routines for The Rip, where they play police officers. Surprisingly, Ben Affleck revealed that getting into shape wasn’t a major requirement for this particular role.
How many times did we work out together using The Rip program? What was our training process like? Surprisingly, we didn’t actually spend much time at the gym.
In the movie The Rip, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon play Miami police officers who discover a large sum of money and choose to steal it. You might think they’d have to get into shape for the roles, but realistically, not all police officers are physically fit.
I found it so interesting when Ben Affleck said they “didn’t really” hit the gym – it almost sounded like he was admitting they went a little! But then Matt Damon completely shut that down, stating very clearly that it just didn’t happen at all. He went on to explain…
Not at all.
Matt Damon didn’t need to worry about hitting the gym for his film The Rip, but he underwent a major physical change for his next project with Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey. He got incredibly fit and lean, reaching a weight he hadn’t seen since his teenage years. While he worked with trainers, Damon believes cutting out gluten played a huge role in his weight loss.
Ben Affleck has definitely put in the effort to get in shape for his movie roles. For example, he underwent intense training for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and needed to be in peak physical condition to convincingly play Batman.
Both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon appear to be in good shape, likely because this video was filmed after Matt Damon began preparing for his role in Odyssey. Affleck had a funny comment about their physiques, playfully referencing the “dad bod” trend that’s common among celebrities. He joked…
The answer is none. It’s not a dad bod, it’s a father figure. Someone told me that.
Since I also have someone I consider a father figure, I really like this way of putting it and will definitely be using this term from now on when talking about it.
