Based on Alice Feeney’s novel, His & Hers is a gripping crime drama that explains why the genre remains so popular on TV. Unlike many crime shows that focus on solving a mystery, this series delves into the emotional consequences and psychological impact of the crime. Like other modern thrillers, it explores broken relationships, untrustworthy narrators, and the long-term damage caused by revealing secrets.
Netflix’s new series, His & Hers, has quickly become a hit, and viewers are now looking for similar shows. They’re searching for mysteries and thrillers that focus on complex characters and build suspense slowly. Luckily, there are plenty of excellent TV series available that prioritize strong storytelling, believable acting, and a captivating mood over simple, step-by-step investigations.
True Detective (2014-Present)
Watch OnHBO Max
HBO
If you haven’t watched True Detective yet, now’s the perfect time. It shares a similar serious mood with His & Hers, and focuses more on creating a strong atmosphere, exploring difficult moral questions, and featuring flawed characters than on typical crime-solving excitement. Like that Netflix series, it uses crime as a way to delve into questions of who we are, how we remember things, and the lasting effects of trauma.
Each season of True Detective features a completely new story and set of characters. The first season, which centered around detectives solving a strange murder in Louisiana, is particularly well-known. Many fans consider Matthew McConaughey’s performance as Detective Rust Cohle to be one of the best TV detective roles of the 2010s. The show is notable for its deliberate pace, thought-provoking conversations, and deep exploration of its characters, and it helped change what people expected from crime dramas.
Mare Of Easttown (2021)
Watch On HBO Max

Similar to His & Hers, Mare of Easttown explores the lasting impact of a traumatic event on a small town. The show prioritizes emotional depth, focusing on grief, memories, and lingering pain, making it a great choice for those who enjoy crime dramas that focus on characters and their stories.
The HBO drama Mare of Easttown takes place in a close-knit Pennsylvania town and stars Kate Winslet as a detective grappling with a murder investigation and her own painful past. The show is praised for realistically portraying how grief and trauma can distort our understanding of truth, making the mystery feel deeply personal and relatable. Following the show’s popularity, Kate Winslet has hinted that a second season is likely.
The Killing (2011-2014)
Watch On Hulu

If you enjoyed the slow-burn storytelling of His & Hers, you’ll likely find The Killing equally compelling. This series takes its time, unfolding a single crime investigation over a whole season. It’s less about solving the mystery quickly and more about examining how the crime impacts everyone involved.
This American drama, based on a Danish series, centers around detectives investigating the murder of a teenage girl in Seattle. The story also explores the impact on the victim’s family and the political fallout from the crime. What sets the show apart is its dark, realistic style and its unwillingness to provide simple resolutions – it’s a compelling take on the aftermath of a crime.
Broadchurch
Watch On Netfli

If you enjoyed His & Hers, you’ll likely love Broadchurch. With a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this British series delves into the emotional aftermath of crime, exploring how it breaks down trust and reveals hidden secrets – prioritizing realistic consequences over sensationalism.
Featuring David Tennant and Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Broadchurch centers on the investigation of a young boy’s death. The show is notable for its sensitive depiction of grief and how suspicion can damage connections between people. Unlike many crime dramas, Broadchurch focuses on realistic characters and their stories, making it a truly significant British crime series.
Big Little Lies (2017-Present
Watch On HBO Max

Like His & Hers, Big Little Lies started as a book, written by Liane Moriarty. Though the second season of Big Little Lies focuses more on family and relationships, its storytelling style is similar enough to His & Hers that it’s worth checking out.
Big Little Lies follows the lives of several women who appear to have it all, but whose worlds are turned upside down by a shocking death. The show uses flashbacks and different perspectives to delve into themes of guilt, past trauma, and hidden aggression. Thanks to its popular cast and numerous Emmy wins, a third season is officially happening. Now’s a great time to watch or re-watch this award-winning series before it returns.
The Madness (2024)
Watch On Netflix

If you enjoyed the mind-bending suspense of His & Hers, The Madness delivers a similar, but even more intense, story of paranoia after a crime. The film centers on Muncie Daniels (Colman Domingo), who finds himself caught up in a murder plot that makes him question everything he believes.
Though it deals with more political themes, The Madness explores similar ideas to His & Hers, particularly how people perceive truth and how the media can influence those perceptions.
You know, I recently checked out The Madness, and while it scored a pretty good 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn’t seem to get much attention when it first came out. Honestly, I was hooked! The show builds tension so well, with a really deliberate pace, and it just gets more and more unsettling. It’s a seriously gripping conspiracy thriller – definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen lately.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Watch On Netflix

If you enjoyed the mind-bending twists of His & Hers, you’ll likely love Behind Her Eyes. This thriller keeps you guessing and challenges you to consider different perspectives on what’s happening, just like His & Hers did.
Okay, so I just finished Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes, and wow, it really gets under your skin. It’s a limited series about a single mom who finds herself tangled in a really messed-up emotional situation, and it slowly unravels into something much darker than you’d expect. It’s definitely got that psychological thriller vibe, reminding me a bit of His & Hers, but it leans more into the surreal and keeps you guessing with a very slow burn. If you like things creepy and twisty, this one’s for you.
Run Away (2026)
Watch On Netflix

Similar to His & Hers, Run Away portrays crime as a deeply personal tragedy, not something that happens far away. The story centers on personal grief and long-hidden family secrets – themes that fans of His & Hers will quickly recognize. This British thriller, adapted from a Harlan Coben novel for Netflix, follows Simon and Paige Greene as they desperately search for their missing daughter.
Similar to other shows based on Harlan Coben’s novels, Run Away focuses more on the characters’ feelings and difficult choices than on thrilling action. It’s a character-driven crime drama that deeply explores themes of loss and avoiding reality. Run Away has quickly become a huge success on Netflix, even reaching the #1 spot and surpassing Stranger Things in popularity.
