Ahsoka season 2 gets a major release update amid fears for show’s future

Ahsoka Tano is a hugely popular Star Wars character, and fans have been eagerly awaiting her live-action debut. First appearing in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008, her popularity exploded when Rosario Dawson was cast as the character, fulfilling a long-held fan wish. After appearing in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka led her own series on Disney+ in 2023, marking a significant moment for the character and its fans.

The Disney Plus series Ahsoka was popular in 2023, so it was quickly renewed for a second season. Production took a while, but it’s now finished and was expected to return in 2026. However, recent news caused some concern among fans, but it appears those issues have been resolved.

Disney Plus confirms Ahsoka season 2 is still coming in 2026

Good news for fans of Ahsoka Tano! Disney Plus has confirmed that season 2 of Ahsoka is still scheduled to premiere in 2026. The streaming service recently highlighted upcoming shows, and the new season of the Star Wars series is included in the lineup. This means we can expect to see Rosario Dawson return as the Jedi Knight sometime this year.

Rumors about the show’s future started late last year when Disney announced its plans for Star Wars, Marvel, and other projects releasing in 2026. The announcement didn’t include a second season of Ahsoka, even though Disney had previously said it would be released this year. This recent update may be an attempt to clarify the situation and address the initial confusion.

Currently, Ahsoka season 2 is the only live-action Star Wars show returning to Disney Plus. Lucasfilm is shifting its focus back to theatrical releases with The Mandalorian & Grogu this year and Star Wars: Starfighter next year. This change comes after some recent shows, like Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, didn’t perform as well as hoped. While The Acolyte did okay, its high production costs meant it still didn’t generate enough viewers to justify its budget.

Talk is that Obi-Wan Kenobi could get another season, but whether The Mandalorian gets a fourth season depends on how well the new movie does. Ahsoka was a hit, so it’s getting a second season, which makes sense. Actually, the fact that Disney Plus hasn’t been releasing a lot of Star Wars content lately – and that we’ve waited so long for more – could build a lot of excitement when the next season finally arrives.

Beyond the second season of Ahsoka and other animated Star Wars shows (like the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord), it’s hard to say what Disney Plus has planned for the franchise. But we’re thrilled to know Ahsoka Tano will return in 2026!
