A new mod for Super Mario 64 lets you play with up to 15 friends, creating some serious fun! This classic 3D Mario game, originally released by Nintendo in 1998, has been incredibly influential, setting the standard for platforming games with its diverse goals and focus on collecting items.

Fans can now play Super Mario 64 with others thanks to a new mod. Called “Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe,” created by AgentXLP and shared on GitHub in November 2024, it lets up to 16 PC players team up and play the game together (as reported by Dark Side of Gaming).

Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe lets up to 16 players enjoy the classic Super Mario 64 together. You can choose from different multiplayer modes, where you can race against friends or other players to finish platforming courses, try to burst each other’s balloons like in Mario Kart, or work to survive dangerous levels and a ticking clock.

It feels more like playing Garry’s Mod than any other Mario game. The huge range of game modes is incredible, and with the co-op mod, everything – enemies, objects, and interactions – is perfectly synchronized for all 16 players, creating a really smooth and connected experience.

Even though it runs smoothly for a fan-made multiplayer mod, “Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe” is delightfully chaotic. It’s unpredictable not just because of the different ways to play, but also because seeing multiple characters – Mario, Luigi, Wario, and more – all running around the same level at once can be incredibly disorienting.

You can get the mod for free by downloading it from its GitHub page. Look for the “Assets” section and select the version you want—the creators suggest using the OpenGL file.
