Netflix’s “bonkers and bingeable” 6-part crime drama with genuinely shocking end twist tops UK chart

Now that the excitement around Stranger Things is dying down, a new Netflix series with a shocking and unexpected ending is quickly becoming popular.

Featuring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, His & Hers is a six-episode crime series centered around a shocking murder in a quiet Georgia town.

When a gruesome murder occurs, Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal) begins the investigation. Coincidentally, his separated wife, Anna Andrews (Thompson), a journalist, is sent back to her hometown of Dahlonega to cover the story.

However, everyone involved is hiding details about what truly occurred in the woods, both from each other and from the authorities.

Since its debut on January 8th, the series has become the most-watched show on Netflix in the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada.

Directed by William Oldroyd, who also directed Lady Macbeth and Eileen, His & Hers is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Alice Feeney. Kate Thompson and Jessica Chastain were executive producers on the project.

The show has been popular with Netflix viewers looking for something to watch after the holidays, but reviews from critics are mixed. It currently has a 71% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising the actors while also pointing out some unbelievable parts of the storyline.

Critics acknowledged the strong performances of Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, but found the series lacking in artistic merit or a clear storyline. However, if you’re looking for something wild and easily binge-worthy, it might be for you, according to The Travers Takes. The Age (Australia) simply called it “Prestige Trash.”

Digital Spy described the final plot twist as brilliantly evil and shockingly similar to the ending of Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes, which set a new standard for surprising conclusions.

Our review gives His & Hers three stars and points out that the show has some pretty unbelievable scenes. It’s a series that really asks viewers to fully buy into its world.

Okay, so this new game, His & Hers, asks a lot of you as a player. You really have to just go with it for some of the stuff that happens to make sense. Seriously, I kept thinking, “How has no one noticed the main detective is acting super shady?” And don’t even get me started on breaking into a morgue and using a dead guy’s eyeballs to unlock an iPhone! You just have to turn off your brain a little and roll with it, honestly.

The show is both silly and captivating because you’re aware the main characters aren’t telling the whole truth, yet you still root for them.

Joining Thompson and Bernthal are Sunita Mani as Detective Priya Patel, Marin Ireland as Jack’s sister Zoe, Rebecca Rittenhouse as news anchor Lexy Jones, and Crystal Fox as Alice, Anna’s mother.

His & Hers is streaming on Netflix.
