It’s a letdown that Chris Hemsworth isn’t in the newest Marvel movie, especially since this film is meant to build towards the next appearance of his character, Thor, in Avengers: Doomsday. Hemsworth has become a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his Thor movies are fan favorites.
Chris Hemsworth has been a major player in some of Marvel’s most popular movies, and a core member of the Avengers since the beginning. He was the first Avenger announced for Avengers: Doomsday, promising a significant role for Thor. However, after seeing the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday and realizing how little Thor appears, fans are understandably disappointed by his limited presence.
The MCU’s Last TV Show Of 2025 Was Thor’s Perfect Avengers: Doomsday Setup & Chris Hemsworth Missed It
Originally planned for December, Marvel decided to release all eight episodes of Wonder Man on Disney+ on January 27th to avoid competition with other shows. As a result, Marvel Zombies, an animated series for mature audiences, became the last Marvel Cinematic Universe release of 2025. Chris Hemsworth wasn’t involved in the project.
Though Thor appeared in Marvel Zombies, he wasn’t voiced by Chris Hemsworth – Greg Furman provided the voice. This was a letdown when the show first came out, especially since many actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe returned to play their live-action characters. However, the difference feels even more noticeable now that Marvel has released the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which shows a much darker and more intense take on Thor.
Beyond that, Thor was shown seeking Odin’s help, seemingly preparing for a mysterious threat. Seeing the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday makes it obvious that Marvel Zombies cleverly paved the way for this darker, more serious portrayal of Thor.
The show featured a battle-worn Thor who rediscovers his courage to help Ms. Marvel, ultimately sacrificing himself against the Scarlet Witch. This felt similar in tone to the more dramatic moments of Thor protecting Love in Avengers: Doomsday, making it an ideal way to introduce Thor into the film, even with the story exploring different versions of the character across the multiverse.
I Hope Avengers: Doomsday Does Not Repeat Thor’s Marvel Zombies Fate

I’m really looking forward to seeing a more intense and dramatic Thor, one facing incredibly high stakes – even the possibility of death and universal destruction, similar to what we saw in Marvel Zombies. However, I hope the grim fate the character suffered in the animated series doesn’t happen to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. It would be devastating to see him die.
The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday hinted that Thor might die, potentially preventing him from returning to his adopted daughter, Love. Adding to the drama, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, is also appearing in the movie. Some fans speculate Thor could sacrifice himself to save Loki, especially since Doctor Doom may be after Loki’s abilities to travel between universes. Having already seen Thor die in Marvel Zombies, many viewers are hoping for a different outcome in Avengers: Doomsday and aren’t ready to see him perish again.
